P.S. Sorry about the vent guys, but it just pains be to see true art rejected with a sure sign of a quick and painful demise. Catch "Bombay Dreams" before its probably closure!

Tony Award and Broadway Thoughts
Let me just say that I can't stand the stuck-up "insiders" the make up the voting organizations of the entertainment industry's most prestigious awards. The Tony's are no exception. It's like every year they reward the money making musical over smaller, more intelligent fare, which is really disconcerting considering that without a Tony nomination for Best Musical, most shows close in a matter of months. I mean, what is this? The Oscar. I think the reason I can't stand the Tony's is because the voters essentially have the power to keep their favorites playing and to close those they deem inferior. It's crazy!
We the public, whenever we go to New York to see a play, we always base our judgements on how many awards a play or musical won. We can't judge a theatrical production on anything else. What's funny is that we usually complain about movie critics, so we ignore the theater critics who are usually more sensible. What I'm getting at is that they totally snubbed "Bombay Dreams." I'm going to see is it while I'm in New York next week and I must say, the premise and reviews are a lot better than the frontrunner "Wicked." On top of that, they give the fourth wild-card slot to "The Boy From Oz," the horrible and mediocrely-recieved musical starring Hugh Jackman. He did excellent from what I hear, but that was about it. It's aggravating. On top of that, musicals that don't get nominations in the top categories are literally banned from putting on a number during the Tony telecast (which is tommorow if I might add). So in other words, people will flock to New York to see the four musicals in the running and ignore "Bombay Dreams," a unique tribute to Bollywood that should have been nominated on originality merits alone. What a cruel world we live in. If I can, I'll catch the probably winner, "Wicked" and report back here a week from today, which is Next Saturday. Thoughts?
