Which is Julie Andrews' most famous role?
I think it's undoubtedly one of these two, but which do you think she is more recognizable for (and yes, you have to pick one
)

I know this is a Disney site, but come on how can anyone with any knowledge of movies in general answer anything but Sound of Music.

JJJ, I'm not sure it's so black and white. Personally, I can't choose between one or the other yet. I think it's extremely possible that more people have seen Mary Poppins, given its demographic, though TSOM grossed more (adjusted for inflation, both are in the top 25, but TSOM is #2 and MP is #22).
Still, I think that if there is one that's more famous than the other, it's not by much, and not that clear-cut of a choice.

She also won an Oscar for Sound of Music, I think.
Personally, they both pop into my head when I think of her, I think they're just about equeal in terms of public conciousness.

It is a popular notion that Julie Andrews won the Oscar for Mary Poppins merely as retaliation against Audrey Hepburn who was also nominated for her part as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, a role which Julie Andrews originated on Broadway and which many thought Julie should have carried onto the screen.

I don't know who to vote for. When I was little and I watched both movies, I hadn't realized that Maria and Mary Poppins(lol, they have the same namesalmost!) were the same person. I always thought it was two different ppl since Maria was dirty blonde and Mary Poppins was brunette. I guess this child psycology still keeps me thinking they're two different ppl. Whenever I watch Mary Poppins, I see Mary Poppins. Whenever I watch Sound of Music, I see Sister Maria. It's very hard to decide who I associate Julie Andrews with more. I also recently learned that Julie Andrews was Cinderella in a 50's tv version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.

Julie Andrews Best Role
I would have to say that her best role was in Sound Of Music.

Man this was a hard choice for me I own both movies and love the music. However I went with Marry Poppins simply becasue Sound of music has some kind of gloom to it where as marry Poppins had its bad moments but was over all colorful and cherry music but it was tough.
