The character description raises a lot of questions. Is it going to be a musical? Will it have a period or contemporary setting? Will it have fantasy or sci-fi elements? What will be the title of the film? Even though the lead is called Koko, there's no way the film itself will be called that to avoid any confusion with Pixar's Coco.

From the info we have, I doubt it will be a musical or a classic fantasy piece. It's sounds more like a contemporary fantasy to me. As Disney's Divinity pointed out, the lead shares similarities with Elio, but I, too, doubt it will be sci-fi or involve aliens which will differentiate it from the Pixar film.

Right now, it doesn't sound like this film's going to be my cup of tea, but I'll wait for more information to come out before I make up my mind.

The premise sounds like a blend of Elio and Encanto. But it also sounds more Pixar than Disney. As for the comparisons to Encanto, remember that Disney decided to make a movie based on a culture that was not that ancient and not based on old folklore or traditions. So the same applies to this movie.

I hope it's not another lame movie based solely around the idea of "Look at the representation we have!" and all that condescending democrat stuff that just got really old by now.
As if demographics and minority groups in America are a trophy to them.

I just hope they have a really strong original story (or fairy tale adaptation) behind it and then sure, have whatever type of lead characters you want

Strange World was beyond ridiculous with this stuff, and Wish didn't help either

I hope the studio has grown more aware by now, because they are in such bad shape, and other projects like Flow, Puss in Boots 2, Spider-Verse or indie online animations are doing waayyy more interesting stuff than them

Count me in. I guess a reason for me is that in many cases im just not interested in "kid protagonists" as they are mostly the same and often act like sidekicks that lack that sincerity and emotional aspect. The one kid protagonist i recall really liking and being unique is Lilo. But this was a 1 in a million situation. Unfortunately we are just getting countless boring Simeas aka
LITTLE SISSSS' in the future.

While this character description doesn't excite me in the least, I suspect it is deliberately written in a vague and generic way. Hopefully, Koko will have an interesting onscreen personality.

I would love if this movie goes the contemporary route to modern-day Manila, or something like that.

Aaaaw, thank you I know that my Encanto-comparison may be a little shallow. But it`s still relevant. And wasn`t Moana really a blend of different Polynesian cultures as well?

On another hand, it`s remarkable that Disney are making a Filipino-setted story, due to how Indonesia and Thailand seems essentially richer in myth and culture. And not to mention having more exotic animals. And I don`t mean to offend or disregard Filipino`s in any ways.

For some reason I`m doubting it. Cause DreamWorks and Disney/Pixar haven`t truly copied each other ideas in the same way as they did before during the arrival of the big Millenium (and let`s remember that The Road to El Dorado was vaguely compared to The Emperor`s New Groove, despite not sharing the same setting). But I could be wrong, though.

I'm already rooting for Dreamworks since the director of Puss in Boots 2, Joel Crawford will also be writing and directing this movie.

Dreamworks definetly has some hits and misses to this day, but unlike WDAS they arent restricted to an overdone formula as their movies are quite really unique and different from each other in tone, execution, and style, even the more passable ones. Rooting for Dreamworks all the way
I really liked PiB2. Artstyle was kinda something i still need getting used to but i loved the dark aspects and overall story. That guy is one of the best things Dreamworks has right now, im sure this movie will be gold too

I understand liking a movie and being frustrated with not everyone loving it like you do and thinking they are misinterpreting the main themes of the movie, but I do think you are being rather passive aggressive here.
