RIP Richard Sherman

Post by D23ExpoVisitor25 »

It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news that legendary Disney musician Richard M Sherman, the last of the two Sherman Brothers, has passed away at age 95: https://thewaltdisneycompany.com/rememb ... m-sherman/.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Sherman. Weโ€™ll miss you and remember you for all the musical contributions you brought to the legacy of Disney for years to come after bringing it to us since 1951 til 2023.

I will always remember you for the songs you made in Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, the 3 original songs for Christopher Robin, and the motif in Once Upon a Studio.

May his memory be a blessing. His music will continue to entertain generations of children. I always loved his appearances in Disney documentaries and behind the scenes materials.

Noooo!!! This is awful! Such a loss.

I watched him perform live 9 years ago... at age 86! And he was AMAZING. Sang, played the piano, told stories... full of energy and life.
Great loss, but great legacy as well. RIP Richard Sherman

Now he has joined his brother, and Walt. You left a great legacy behind, Mr. Sherman. I especially will always love "Feed the Birds", "Once I Was Loved", "Suddenly It Happens", and "Tell Him Anything (But Not That I Love Him)". Thank you for all you did, RIP.

I'm glad they made a panel to celebrate his legacy. I'm very interested in watching it, but I don't know if I'm prepared for it yet. I know it's strange, but I'm still like mourning his death. It's the passing of a famous person that has personally affected me the most so far. And I knew he was very old now and it could happen any day. Perhaps it was partly due to the fact that I lost my aunt about a year ago and I'm probably a bit sensitive about this kind of stuff right now because of that. Plus, there are seasons where I listen more to a certain composer or artist, and when he passed away I was in the midst of listening to Sherman Brothers songs. I had been doing that for a long time actually. I've been quite busy lately, but in my free time, to relax, I had been listening again to all the albums by them I have, as well as works from them I hadn't heard before like some of their songs for Annette Funicello or the musical Busker Alley. My favorite Disney composer is Alan Menken, but I like the Sherman brothers almost as much. And all that made me even more of a fan of their work than I already was.

Anyway, he had a really long and successful life, and it seems he was in good health almost until the end and still writing music, so that's great.

By the way, now that I'm at it, if anyone knows where I can find the soundtrack for their 1971 musical Victory Canteen, I'd really appreciate it, since it's one of the few works from them I haven't heard.

How fabulous to see 77 year old Lesley Ann Warren and 78 year old Hayley Mills reminiscing about their time with the Shermans and singing a duet! (Lesley turns 78 on Friday, 16 August!)

Happy Autumn!
Just wanted to say I was listening to a countdown of the Billboard Top 40 from this week in 1961 and was so excited to hear at # 40-Letโ€™s Get Together by Hayley Mills!
The song would eventually peak at # 8.

The host mentioned that the song was written by the Sherman Brothers for Walt Disneyโ€™s The Parent Trap which had premiered 3 months earlier in June.

(Btw, the # 1 song that week was Take Good Care of My Baby by Bobby Vee.)
