UK Walt Disney Treasures - WILL BE IN TINS (YAY !)

Hi all,

I got confirmation from a guy at the UK Disney DVD Shop that the UK Treasures will be in tins...

hooray!

:lol:

can't wait...that's my nephews sorted, what with Donald too in September they can have the Region #2 treasures...

therefore the Region #1 releases are all mine, mine mine ahahahahahhahah !

the uk one looks a little cheap to me - almost like plastic?
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I also don't like that they are bigger than the R1 tins and don't have the band, so they won't match the American releases on the shelf. Anyway, I'm going to shut up now, because we could get no tin at all. :lol:

Are we definitely getting the chronological Donald in September? (in the UK?) also, any word when the other Disney treasures (coomplete Goofy etc) will appear over here?
Just release every Disney full-length toon on DVD - now, damn you!

Hi.

I understand from Disney UK that Goofy, Mickey Mouse in Black & White, will be released next year, depending on the success of this years releases...

Pluto is due out in the US in Wave 4 for next year, so it may be a while before it arrive in Region 2 ...

Does anyone think that the treasures will be popular here in the UK?
I agree that the tins are ugly and I don't think that they have been pushed into the public's awareness enough. We all know what they are when we go into HMV or wherever, but does the rest of the public?
I don't know about you, but if I see the "Limited Edition" banner stamped on anything, I have to have it. The UK treasures don't even have that on them.
I won't be buying them because I've got all of the region 1 releases but I'm still interested to see how well they sell over here.
Anyone thinking of buying them?

No they won't be successful. It's another Disney UK PR disaster. Not only was the press release wrong (but I suppose it at least got one) but the sets are not listed at all on the Disney.co.uk website. Even their DVDShop ("listing every DVD available") doesn't offer them for sale.

I think the R2 NL Treaures will be succesful, because they are very cheap. They are €14,99.

ok, maybe a stupid question, but I'm kind of confused. When I order from Amazon.co.uk do they come in tins or not? because the pictures of the covers on the website don't look like tins at all. And here in The Netherlands only a limited amount comes in tins. So does anyone know if all treasures in the UK come in tins? thanks in advance :)

According to Disney UK, there are a limited number of tins.

What you can do is buy them, and if they don't come in tins send them back - Amazon will pay for the return...

The reason that tins aren't shown on the Amazon UK site is that the tins weren't ready by the time the publicity release was done...added to that is the relentless inability of Disney UK to promote their releases properly.

I've ordered them, and will know in a day or two if my ones are in tins.

Okay since I really want Mickey in Black and White and Goffy to be released here in good old blitty does anyone know of a good website that list's DVD charts/sales so I can see how the treasures are going here in the UK.

I'm hope were wrong but like Netty I don't think they'll do too well :(

The 'Disney Treasures' that are out now in the UK first showed up on Play, Amazon etc before Christmas - but I've heard that the Chronolical Donald is showing up in September, but it's still not available for pre-order anywhere. Also, does anyone know if we'll have to wait a year or more until the remaining 'Treasures' like Goofy, Front Lines, etc? (I'm not too bothered about the non-animated tins, but I'm very keen to get all the animated ones.)

The Chronological Donald will be released here in the UK in September...on his 70th birthday!

I think we might see The Complete Goofy and maybe Mickey Mouse in BW next year...

The Complete Pluto is slated for next year in R1 - the US, so it may be a year or two before we see that over here along with On the Front Lines (if they see a good return on their minimalist promotion of the Treasures here in the UK!)

Let me give you an example of that...in France they went on sale on 27th April. Within a day, they were showing as 4-7 weeks waiting list on Amazon France.

In contrast you can see that in the UK they're hardly even selling cos Amazon UK is not running out - they're showing as usually dispatched within 24 hours!

Still, 10 days till I get my Wave 3 Treasures!

It's absolutely ridiculous how poorly they've been promoted, isn't it? These should be on every parent's shopping list, as an absolutely fantastic way of keeping the kids occupied. But I've barely seen them - only Woolworths have them, I haven't seen them in Asda, and there have been NO in-store displays, when really, they should be doing business as good as any platinum edition. Barmy.

I used to work for the Disney Channel years ago when it was based in Kensington, and listen, if BV's marketing department now is as full of incompetent kiss-ass's as TDC was then, then I'm amazed there's still a Disney presence in this country at all.

Hey Tooniac, slagging off Buena Vista UK's Public Relations is my main topic on this International DVD forum! Glad to have you on board.

I post titles available to order on e-tailer sites, plus I scan the BBFC listings every few days, simply because its the only way of knowing what Buena Vista Home Entertainment are releasing most of the time. Only a few of their DVD releases even get a press release!

For a laugh so a search for Treasures in the UK, and see all the confusion and frustration on the topic posted since this time last year.

I see the Recess DTVs aren't being released until later this year... over 18 months since they were first mooted for release!

Hi there 2099.

Why is Disney UK so rubbish? I think I know. When I was at the Disney Channel there was an American corporate culture there, imposed from the top by the Yank who ran it. In other words, people would stay late and make sure they were SEEN to be working hard, without actually bothering about whether they did a good job or not, and I imagine this was the case throughout Disney UK.

However, I met hardly anyone who really liked 'the product'. Most people there just wanted to get into the media and secretly had total contempt for Disney releases, which they saw as uncool American crap. Similarly, they kiss-arsed the American management but in reality hated them. Thinking about it, if that attitude is still prevalent today, then it's no wonder BV do such an awful job! They have absolutely no respect or love for the product they sell or the fans they sell it to. Kids will buy anything; adult fans are just weirdo's; Disney films are pap. Judging by my time there that is what Disney UK REALLY think. But maybe they'd like to respond...?
Just release every Disney full-length toon on DVD - now, damn you!
