My "Kill Bill" Review

Post by goofystitch »

I just got back from seeing "Kill Bill vol. 2" and it was great. I would give it 5 stars. The "Kill Bill" films play like a king-fu western, so it gets pretty weird at times. Many weird things throughout the film will probably turn many away from it. For one, in the first film, every time Uma Thurman's character's name is mentioned, it is bleeped out. They refer to her as "The Bride." You will learn her name in the second film, but it is weird that they covered it up and there appeared to be no reason for it. Also, the film constantly changes from black and white to color, and aspect ratios change as well. The film is mostly in cinemascope, but some of it is in standard 16x9 widescreen, and some even in fullscreen.

The story is about a bride(Uma Thurman) who on her wedding day, was murdered by her former partners in crime. They were all assasins, and they all worked for Bill. However, the didn't actually kill her, so 4 years later she wakes up from a coma and she wants her revenge. She has a list and she is going down it, killing off every one of them until she kills Bill.

There is a lot of great action scenes, and even some comedy. A lot of fun artsy stuff is in these films. In the first film, Oren's(Lucy Liu) background story is told through anime. Whenever a person lost a limb in the anime, blood would fly everywhere in a comical way, so when the movie switches back to live action, evey Japaneese person to loose a limb had blood fly everywhere. My favorite of the assasins that the bride is hunting down is Elle(Daryll Hannah). To tell you why, I would have to ruin the second movie for you, so I'll let you see for yourself.

A WORD OF CAUTION: "Kill Bill" is very violent and has many very disturbing scenes. If you don't think you can handle watching someone in torture, DO NOT see "Kill Bill."

I totally agree that Kill Bill V.2 was an awesome movie. It is uber violent but if you can take that it is Tarantino at his Best. I would also be careful about watching it if you are claustrophobic. I am and there is a particular scene (actually the scene is separated into 2 scenes) which had me peering through my fingers hoping it would be over. No way I could've gone through what the character does but that's just me. This is a classic which I'll wait for the dvd Tarantino has promised seaming the 2 films together in a big SE.

While we're on the subject I feel I must tell you that if you've seen the violence and gore in Vol. 1 it is exteme, while Vol. 2 is the complete opposite, hardly any gore or blood, just a few intense moments like claustrophobia and squishyness. It was an awesome movie and I too can't wait for the seamless DVD release. KILL BILL ROX!

You’ve got it all rong. The "gore" in Kill Bill is not to be described as "EW!" Instead, it is rather comedic, and on purpose I should add. It is spoofing Anime, not trying to gross you out.

And if that makes you want to puke without ever even seeing it, then maybe the only movies you can watch are Disney animation films. What makes violence disturbing is it's context. For example, when I first saw Saving Private Ryan, the Normandy scene made me nauseous. Seeing blood pumping out of a young man's body, REALISTICALLY, and hearing him moan and cry out to his mother while holding his intestines is something to be disturbed by.

Or seeing a chunk of flesh being ripped out of a man's side while he is brutally beaten, as in The Passion of the Christ.

Those two movies are realistic, and the context invokes a sympathetic emotion from us, the audience. Where as Kill Bill makes you laugh.

I'm not defending the quality of Kill Bill one bit, it's only a mediocre film. Just don't react like a 50's house mom when you haven't even seen the movie.

I like the anime sequence, where O-Ren pulls the sword out of the crime boss and a #$@*ing tidal wave of blood just sprays across the room.

Er... haven't seen Volume 2 yet.

I've just come back from seeing Vol 2. I have to say I didn't like it as much as Vol 1 but I kinda knew I wouldn't before seeing it.
I thought the beginning with Budd was quite slow and was a bit annoyed B didn't get to kill him.
I loved the fight between B and Elle, but OMG how gross was it when B stepped on Elle's eye (with NO shoe's on!). I couldn't stop laughing at that Pai Mai (or however you spell his name) he was a right nutter. I thought the end was pretty good as well, I knew she wouldn't kill Bill in cold blood (too much history).
All in all a really good movie.

Well thats actually low in fat so you can eat as much of that as you like.
