Samuel E. Wright [Sebastian/Kron] (1946-2021)

Post by NeoSuperBlissey »

ComicBook.com is reporting that Samuel E. Wright, the voice of Sebastian the Crab in "The Little Mermaid" and Kron the Iguanodon in "Dinosaur," has passed away at the age of 74.

In fact, Wright's last film credit was as the voice of Sebastian in the 2008 direct-to-video prequel film "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning."

Wright also originated the role of Mufasa in the Broadway production of "The Lion King."

:o :( I would not have expected this. I thought he and Jodi Benson would still be around for some decades yet... :( He was an incredible talent--singing, acting, comedy--and equally responsible for making TLM what it is as Pat Carroll, Kenneth Mars, and Jodi Benson. All four of them made that movie what it is. Rest in peace.

:o

What a shock and a huge pity. He was too young to die yet.

Rest in peace, Samuel E. Wright.

Sebastian is one of my all-time favorite characters. I’m glad he got to record so much material for the character in the movies, TV shows, the bonus albums. So sad for his family, may he rest in peace.

Some of my earliest memories are of watching his concerts on the Disney Channel. He definitely played a huge part of my/our childhoods. Rest in peace, Mr. Wright. :( <3

This video by the official YouTube channel for ABC affiliate KABC-TV (Los Angeles) said that Wright's daughter mentioned to the Hollywood Reporter that Wright had been fighting prostate cancer for the three years leading to his passing.

(P.S.: Don't get upset at the reporter for mispronouncing "Mufasa.")

Same here. He's definitely my favorite Disney sidekick.

I agree, he gave such an incredible and endearing performance.

He was so funny in The Little Mermaid. I really loved him in that and the TV show. Rest in peace, Samuel.
