Disney Comfy Squad

Post by disneyprincess11 »

So, I saw the new book that bruno_wbt posted in another thread (Don't care I'll be 27, I pre-ordered it :P ) and noticed this on the book cover.

Image

It looks like the Disney Comfy Squad is going to be a outside franchise from the Disney Princess franchise. I guess we should expect a press release soon. It sounds like a nice compromise to the Princess integrity, but just add Vanellope and the Frozen girls into the lineup, it’s not that hard. :P

This definitely explains the sudden surge of the merch. At the very least, YouTube shorts (like Descendants and ZOMBIES) could be happening shortly.

Interesting. This is the third time Disney's trying to squeeze another franchise out of the Disney Princesses. Neither Palace Pets nor Lego Disney Princess have had long-term success. We'll see how this one fares. If they have to make animated content to support it, I hope it's not done by WDAS. If this is a strictly consumer products brand, any content made for it will most likely be produced by Disney Digital Network.

It's even more weird because Ralph Breaks the Internet, while did barely well than the original, was essentially a flop, especially in the US. And it's possible Ralph won't even appear in the franchise, which would a pity, considering his fun little bit with the girls at the end. And why are they doing this two-three years later when the Wreck-It Ralph series is essentially dead? (It's funny because a WiR short that involved COVID-19, be it Ralph staying with Vanellope or a classy lesson about Zoom that would involve the whole WiR cast would be so perfect and fitting, instead of the Olaf shorts.) Will people even know who Vanellope is?

The digital shorts will defientely be done by either Disney Digital Network or a separated entity in the the Consumers Team. That's where Descendants and ZOMBIES are getting their shorts from. If WDAS is making TV shows, I would be down with them, making it. Especially if Pamela Ribbon will be the director/writer. But, I do hope they get writers from DTVA because honestly those are Disney's stronger writers right now.

I think they waited to see if merch was popular enough to sustain a separate brand. I don't expect Ralph to be a part of it, but it's possible he'll make a cameo of some sort. My biggest question is when will these potential shorts be set, timeline-wise. Will these new adventures take place in the middle of the film before Vanellope leaves or will they be set after? If it's the latter, does it mean Vanellope keeps leaving her new game to visit the princesses?

The quality of those is dirt poor. I hope they spring a little more dough for the princesses. If they're going to do this, they need to put some actual effort and resources into it.

Oh, really? I've wished for ages they'd make video games for the Disney princess films in the style of the Lego games for Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pirates or the Caribbean, etc. Even if they combined 2 or 3 films into one game, it would have been cool.

I think this'll do a little better than the Palace Pets though... I never had any interest in that, whereas I think seeing the princesses in normal clothes is a cute idea. I don't think it'll last for years or that it would be anywhere as successful as the DP line, but worth the merchandise that will made. I wouldn't be surprised if this is disassociated from WIR and they create a new universe to explain its existence. Likewise, I wouldn't be surprised if Vanellope is nowhere to be found.

Well, the upcoming book has the Princesses actually on Slaughter Race, so it's clearly after. In Amy Mebberson's first comic, Vanellope had to time to visit the Princesses because Slaughter Race was down for reboots. So, I guess the writers are coming up with millions of excuses for Slaughter Race to be down. At least, the franchise is being more accurate to the sequel than the sequel being accurate with the first one. Guess being accurate only counts for money. Unless there is a short with Princessses in Sugar Rush (Hence the Sugar Rush Merch), has Vanellope abandon Litwak's altogether?

To be fair, all of these animators are at home, hence less software and resources. It could be me, but I do notice that the Raya animation looks a little plastic with the quality. Is it just me?
Disney's Divinity wrote:Likewise, I wouldn't be surprised if Vanellope is nowhere to be found.
Me neither. :| Vanellope is in the book, thank God. But minus a horrible mini-doll and action figure on the Comfy Princess sets, she's legit nowhere to be found in the franchise. I wouldn't buy them, but I'd love to see Vanellope dolls with her in more comfy clothes or even a Slaughter Race touch-up.

Why would you say that? LEGO Disney Princess launched a magazine this year, and lots of LEGO Disney Princess sets are coming next month!

According to the description of the book, the Princesses are going to explore the Internet, so all the Sugar Rush toys that are being released right now, would make sense if there's an episode about that.

A new storybook inspired by the iconic Disney Princess scene in Disney Ralph Breaks the Internet - with 2 stories in 1!
In the Internet, the avatars of the Disney princesses and Frozen's Anna and Elsa are rulers of OhMyDisney.com, leading sing-alongs and participating in quizzes and games. But all that changed when Vanellope von Schweetz rushed into their dressing room! Now, the princesses and their new friend explore the Internet, and occasionally save it, too! From using their skills to save the day to learning to drive racecars in Slaughter Race, this girl squad is always on an action-packed adventure!
Kids ages 3 to 7 who love the Disney princesses and Frozen will enjoy this two-in-one storybook, which features the princesses' new outfits and amazing adventures!
Inspired by the princess scene from Disney Ralph Breaks the Internet, these stories feature the princesses dressed in casual, comfy outfits with fun, modern-day accessories and going on exciting adventures through the internet!

I really hope WDAS is doing these shorts for Disney Plus. The princesses deserve the best animation!

Oh, I didn't know that. I guess it's easier to come up with new stories that way.

I always find CG animation kinda plastic-y, so I'm not the best person to ask that. :P

Because the series of storybooks where they were all together that launched in late 2018 underperformed, resulting in them canceling a book they had previously announced (the "Four Wishes" one).

This premise seems more conducive to standalone shorts or a short-form series than a half-hour show.

I'm probably alone, whatever, but I'd love if Disney was inspired to make a racing game from this Comfy Squad thing. Going off the line I bolded above, it could take place in Slaughter Race. The princesses could have their own themed cars, with audio as they race and sabotage one another. It would be a lot of fun if done right...

But you're only talking about the book series, I thought you were talking about the brand in general.

That would be great for an episode, but I would also like to see them in Sugar Rush with all the candy clothes like the new dolls form Hasbro.

I thought the Princesses in Ralph were cute, and seemed to endear themselves to the public quite a lot I felt ?

Anything new from the Princesses gets the thumbs up from me at the moment - they seem to have been dropped quite dramatically by Disney ? Like no new games or recordings that the voice cast will come back for .. there were some comic shorts on youtube though, I'd forgotten about that.

I'd love to see some shorts on each Princess on Disney+, I think that would be cool ! If they are looking for content, I'm sure they would be successful, surely ?

Dream scenario - each Princess would have an episode, a song, and the art direction would be replicated from their original film. How wonderful would that be ?! Might just be me, but I'd be there 100% ! Though not like the Disney Princess Enchanted Tales DVD from a few years ago.

I feel the same way. We need more stuff about the princesses! I would love to see a show like Enchanted Tales, but I would also be happy if the did the Comfy Squad Princesses show, but with songs and cool stories.

Couldn't it be a whole thing, like Alan Menken does a new song for them as a group, or any of the individual girls etc ? I think it would be massive personally, but they did it once with 'If you can dream' then haven't bothered since. We don't even have new Princess recorded songs and things anymore, like the Christmas album etc.

Another reason I don't want WDAS to be doing the potential shorts is that they will use the 3D models from the Ralph Breaks the Internet which I find quite unappealing. I feel the Comfy Squad's 2D incarnation as seen in concept art and storybooks looks much better in terms of design.

That would be really nice, but I don't believe Disney's willing to put that kind of effort into it, anymore. Every subsequent Disney Princess campaign has had less fanfare and promotion and they don't even do coronations for their new inductees, anymore. The type of effort and content being put into the franchise during its early years is a thing of the past, unfortunately. We'll see what they'll actually deliver for the Comfy Squad iteration of the brand.

Is it because they don’t make enough money anymore ? Or is it that they don’t need to do anything at all with regards to effort as everyone eats it up anyway :?

That unfortunately sounds like the more logical explanation for it ....

I know that this is supposed to be a separate thing than the Disney Princesses and I know that Elsa and Anna are "officially" not in it, but it seems like they are practically in it, at least in content if not merchandise, which is fine by me.
