Wow, really? That's super surprising. I'm not sure there would be a lot of interest in this project even when relegated to Disney Plus. I liked the actor though so I'd give it a watch.

Well... That's strange. I thought the Genies prequel might be more likely to happen now rather than a spinoff. :?

 I wonder how long it will take before people start complaining about how the only white character in the film is getting their own spin-off.

Well, I think they're saving the more important characters like Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie for the big screen, whether they're in Aladdin sequels or Genie spinoffs.

Hopefully the fact that the movie is a streaming only film which quell the complaints. I know I was pretty shocked at first when I just read the article title but when I learned that it was for Disney Plus, that made more sense. And people still tend to be pretty prejudiced against streaming only content vs theatrical films so that ought to help.

I hope the movie's a musical but it probably won't be. I think Prince Anders in his own musical would be hilarious! It would be a great opportunity for Disney to do a purely comedic musical which I don't believe they've ever done.

He can definitely sing so maybe that's the route they're going to go. However, as Prince Anders he also has that very strong accent and that may hamper his singing ability.

Besides Once Upon a Mattress and the TV show Galavant, they really haven't.

Lol, it's already begun. Actually the timing of this film's announcement was really bad considering Mena Massoud mentioned just a few days ago that he hasn't been able to book any roles since Aladdin.

It wasn't announced by Disney. A trade broke the story. I wouldn't be surprised if the project ended up getting cancelled because of the backlash. Mainstream media is partially to blame for giving credence to a bunch of idiots on Twitter with their performative faux outrage regardless if it makes any sense or not. They gotta get them clicks though.

In that case, was this news delivered by a credible source even? It seems like a really odd project to focus on even for Disney.

Yes, it was an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter. I'm not surprised by Disney greenlighting this project as they've been scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to scrounge up content for Disney+.

Thanks for confirming. Honestly, if Disney is interested in Aladdin spinoffs they should consider making Sindbad. They could even use one of their old story treatments.

Reliable sources revealed that that version was scrapped.

I think there is a part of irony for a movie than relies a lot on being 'ethic' [if I may say so], and intend to make a lot of money on that rather than by its consistency I guess, to make a spinoff about the only white guy in the cast.

Somehow it's not completely to displease me for I love Billy Magnussen! But I just don't like of what he's doing in this remake.. :-/

If it makes you feel better, his spinoff film has been relegated to Disney Plus as a streaming only exclusive. They're saving the real "ethnic" characters for the big screen in the sequel.

Apparently Prince Anders was a real scene stealer in the film and audiences loved him which I would have believed more if one of his big scenes hadn't been cut out. In the final film he really doesn't have much screentime and there's no explanation as to why he's still in Agrabah for the party/festival because his introduction scene was originally meant to be extended. I really liked the added Dalia moments in there too.

Oh Disney really Prince Anders was so funny he needs his own film when he wasn't funny enough to keep his whole scene in the first film?

(By the way I loved Prince Anders in the first film, I just don't get Disney's logic)
