The first trailer has just been released. It's not bad but not great either. It gave me Narnia vibes. I like the production design and the color scheme but the story seems derivative and RDJr's accent sucks.

I think the world can handle another Dolittle adaptation. Talking animals in colorful environments with a charismatic leading man. What’s not to like? That poster, I suppose.

Also that is one of the most star-studded casts I have ever seen. Emma Thompson is a great choice for Polynesia, too.

January is a strange release date. It seems more of a Thanksgiving/Christmas film, but I guess they’re afraid of Frozen? Could have been great counter programming to appeal to families tired of Olaf but then again, I don’t know what else is on the calendar. Well, Cats...

I LOVED the trailer it looked amazing !

Tham agian Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite movies of ALL TIME !

And this as the trailer very clearly pointed out this movie is from the same producer.

Early reviews for “Dolittle” have been awful, with just a 13% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The humor is beyond juvenile from start to finish with corny puns, slapstick pratfalls, and low level potty humor full of farts and shots to the genitals.

And based on the RT reviews, it's boring, and it has potty humor. I know people at work were looking forward to this...

I thought the movie was fine. There's nothing exactly groundbreaking or new about the story and the humour is hit-or-miss, but the animal special effects are well done, Robert Downey Jr makes for a solid lead, Michael Sheen's villain is delightfully over-the-top and Stephen Gaghan is able to handle the size and scale of the production.

It's interesting people are making such a big deal about Dr. Dolittle performing a colonoscopy in the movie. He's a doctor, isn't it? And it's hardly a graphic scene.

I also had no problem understanding Downey's Welsh accent in the movie. I was able to clearly hear every word that came out of his month, but maybe it's because I've seen "Chaplin" multiple times and so I'm used to hearing Downey speak in a non-American accent. I've often found it remarkable how whenever he plays someone who isn't American, his voice sounds completely different with none of the fast talking of his regular speaking voice or his roles in "Iron Man" or "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." Just look at this interview where he switches from his normal voice to a Richard Attenborough impression like the drop of a hat. Downey is also great at using his body language to convey a character's thought process and that's evident in "Dolittle."

Yesterday after 2 tries it miraculously worked on the WSJ site (I don't have a subscription). What I do for paywall articles is either a) copy the URL into archive.org (The Internet Wayback Machine) or when that fails, b) copy a line of text from the article, in quotes, in Google, to see if someone posted the entirety of the article elsewhere.
