I was surfing around came upon this page on International DVDs. I was upset to see that the French and UK releases of Pinnochio and Peter Pan (with a fantastic packaging and slipcover) had GREAT extras that aren't in their American versions.

Pinnochio DVD:
Region 2 - UK, Italy, etc. & Region 4 - Australia
- Features brand-new digitally-remastered print
- 1.33:1 Original Aspect Ratio, 5.1 Dolby Digital
- "A Wish Come True" (5-minute making-of featurette)
- "The Search for Jiminy Cricket" (set-top game)
- Original 1940 Trailer (2 minutes)
- Two Sing-Along Songs: "Figaro & Cleo" (1:30) & "Little Wooden Head" (2:10)
- Short Film starring Jiminy Cricket - "I'm No Fool Having Fun" (8 minutes)
- Short Film starring Jiminy Cricket - "I'm No Fool With Fire" (8 minutes)
- Storyboard-to-Film Comparison (4 minutes)
- Easter Egg: "Cap Nat Pluto" Short (6:30)

Peter Pan DVD:
Disc Two
- Documentary - "Walt Disney's 9 Legendary Animators"
- "The History of Peter Pan" documentary
- "The Making of Peter Pan" featurette
- "Playful Pan" Silly Symphonies Short (colorized)
- 1924 Silent "Peter Pan" Film (Paramount, 1 hour 41 minutes)
- Peter Pan Album with 3 galleries
- Galleries of Photographs and Posters
- Sing-Along Songs: "You Can Fly", 2 others

How come the American versions don't have some of this great stuff? Why do International Releases in general have more material? Will there be reissues including this material?

Because of two titles you state that international releases has more fun then american?

You are so far from the truth that you can't belive it.

In all over the world people are buying the American releases just because they most of the time are better then the national release.

There are just a few exeptions to this.

Well, on the whole international releases don't have more. Apart from the two you have mentioned, there's only the single disc Pocahontas and the live action 101 Dalmatians.

All of these, bar the live action 101 Dalmatians, are scheduled to have 2 disc releases in America in the near future and given previous release patterns it is more then likely the American discs will have more content when they are released.

Most countries got a 2 Disc Sleeping Beauty release before America, but when it was released in America a commentary was added, the trailers were added, voice overs for text screens and the galleries were added. Even a crappy music video was added. I would say the same is likely to be done for Peter Pan and Pinocchio.

As for the current discs, well the Pinocchio disc has a 20 minute "making of" feature edited down to 5 minutes. I would guess America will get the whole thing, and the Peter Pan documentary, on the so-called "collectors' edition" is edited down by about 1/3 (but is complete on the R1 Special Edition).

Even when it appears other countries are getting something better, we're still only getting the scraps, where America get the full meal (even if sometimes it's a little late)

As for other stuff - Melody Time, Saludos Amigos and Make Mine Music are only now in the process of being released in some areas - France just got Saludos Amigos for the first time recently for example, and Brazil has Make Mine Music scheduled to be released soon. Britain is still in the process of waiting for half-hearted releases of only 2 of the titles in the first wave of Disney Treasures (and it looks unlikely that we'll get the other two titles at all). We were promised these discs last November, but they won't be out until May. Talking of slipping, I've noticed a range of catalogue titles scheduled for May are now supposed to be coming out in August, September and October. Every one moaned when the US Wave 3 Treasures were delayed by 6 months or so, and all sorts of wild conspiracy theories were banded about simply because it was such a rare occurence, but its something we have to put up with in the UK on a regular basis. Sometimes we don't even find out a title has slipped until a few weeks after it's supposed released date, meaning we waste time and effort looking for non-existant discs in the shops! Disney can't even be bothered to tell people the titles aren't coming out!

We get single disc editions of the US Vault Disney titles, with miminal extras (or none at all) and even the single disc Witch Mountain films have been released over here barebones - not even with a trailer.

Then there's the issue that Disney UK only promote about one fifth of their titles, with the vast majority of releases not even getting an annoucement. When the 2 disc Sleeping Beauty was released over here (10 months after the single disc P&S release) Amazon.co.uk didn't sell it for over a week becuase Disney couldn't even be bothered to tell them it was available! Just go over to Amazon.co.uk and see how many of the recent Disney titles have no cover art or specifications listed. That's because Disney UK haven't bothered to send out any promotions for the discs!

If you go to www.disney.co.uk and in particular their "official DVD shop" (http://www.disney.co.uk/DisneyVideos/shop) even this is out-of-date, despite claims it sells "every Disney DVD released" (for example 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is only available on VHS!, when it's been out of DVD for at least a couple of weeks now).

The only good news is that European releases are more likely to get OAR, enhanced for widescreen television transfers than America.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

This is the reason I put such a long review of the treasures set up on amazon.co.uk. I'm sure a lot more people over here would buy these releases if they were told what they were!
Dust? Anyone? No?

and what suprices me the most is that nobody at Disney UK get fired over this. They are obviously loosing a lot of money because of lack of comunication.
