Fire started in the roof. The spire collapsed and the towers are safe. I don't think anyone will look at Hunchback of Notre Dame the same way again.

Hi bradhig. I was watching this live. I felt like crying.

I was following BBC World News. They even reported that the stained glass had apparently melted. Thank God it turns out that isn't true.

Also, agreed re Hunchback novel and Disney's adaptation. The next time I watch it will be a bit more special, and haunting.

I felt like crying, too, watching the news. Thankfully the damage isn't as extensive as was first being reported. I'm also pleased to see Disney have pledged 5 million to the restoration effort.

If nothing else, I hope this makes people not take these historic landmarks for granted. I've never been to Notre Dame. It's always been a dream of mine, though. And watching that blaze, I feared my dream of seeing it in person was going up in flames along with it.
