The directors and producer talk about the possibility of a sequel to Coco.
Will there be a Coco sequel? Darla said right now all she is thinking about is this film and they are super focused and no where beyond that right now. She said they havenโt really given it a thought. Lee added that it would really depend on how the movie goes and if people are looking for another story because they donโt want to leave that world. At the end of the day this is a story and if there is another story to be told they will, but they try to make the films stand alone.
Will there be a sequel to Coco? I know many are already wondering, so here is what Lee, Adrian, and Darla had to say. They shared that sequels are created when the fans are connected with the characters and donโt want to leave the world they live in, but in the end, it just depends if there is another story to be told afterward.
Bob Iger wrote:Not every great movie we make becomes a franchise. Cocoโs another example of a great movie, not sure thatโs necessarily a franchise, but we're very proud of the fact that we made it and it did extremely well at the box office and it was nominated for an Academy award. That's not a bad thing.
Sotiris wrote:I guess this mean no sequel for Coco.
I'm sure they said this for Toy Story as well after the third film came out. I wouldn't put it past Pixar to make a sequel for Coco even if it won't be for a decade or so.

I could kind of see a sequel with Miguel being a teenager or where Miguel is very old/near death. The only thing I don't get is how the sequel could be called Coco 2.... (Unless, if you go with the old Miguel idea, one of his descendants is named after Coco--maybe even his daughter?)
Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Anthony Gonzalez, who voiced young guitar-strummer Miguel in the film, shared his hopes that the story of โCocoโ will continue on now that Miguel can openly embrace his musical proclivities โ whether that be a stage show, a live-action adaptation, or a sequel.
โIf there was a chance, I would love to. I hope thereโs a sequel even if Iโm not in it. Iโd just love to see more about Miguel โ what heโs up to, what heโs doing. I want to know about his relationship with his new baby sister,โ Gonzalez said.
I LOVE coco, but...
yk I can understand Incredibles 3, Toy Story 5 with the new toy Replacements and IO3, theres plenty of room to build a new worthy story, but Coco 2 seems ridiculous. Whats left to tell? U cant top death with death.

Coco 2 reunites the team behind the original film, including director Lee Unkrich (Coco, Toy Story 3) and co-director Adrian Molina (Coco). Oscar-winning producer Mark Nielsen (Toy Story 4, Inside Out 2) will produce.
Isn't it odd that Lee Unkrich is directing the sequel when he was supposed to have retired? I wonder if the Lopezes or any other members of the songwriting team will be coming back too.
Interestingly, Disney initially posted on social media that the film will be released in 2029, but later removed the release year.
Disney and Pixarโs Coco 2 is officially coming to theaters in 2029.
