Frozen: Northern Lights

Post by disneyprincess11 »

Well, this is surprising to nobody
As first reported by Stitch Kingdom back in March, Disney today confirmed a series of new shorts based on a new franchise titled Frozen Northern Lights. As also reported by Stitch Kingdom, the franchise will kick off this summer with a book release from Random House titled Frozen Northern Lights: Journey to the Lights. The 224 page book positions itself as an adaptation of the new franchise’s storyline, with the publisher’s descriptions as follows:

'Frozen Northern Lights: Journey to the Lights'‘Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and their friends from Disney Frozen are helping Little Rock the troll earn his tracking crystal. Join them as they embark on a mountain adventure under the Northern Lights! This special novelization features 8 pages of spectacular photos of the real Northern Lights in a beautiful jacketed hardcover format. It’s perfect for children ages 6 to 9!’

The book will be followed by at least four other titles: Oaken’s Invention, Kristoff’s Crystal Adventure, Frozen Adventure Guide and The Right Track.

Frozen Northern LightsThen this fall, a series of LEGO shorts featuring the original talent from Frozen will debut on Disney Channel. According to reports, there will be four new shorts in total. Below are some soundbites of Josh Gad (Olaf) talking about the new Frozen Northern Lights franchise and his experiences being part of the Frozen family.

The storyline will be reimagined by the LEGO Group with four new animated shorts and a full compilation airing on Disney Channel this fall. The shorts will bring the unique brand of stylized animation and witty LEGO humor to the world of Frozen, with the voice talent from the movie reprising their roles.

LEGO shorts? Really? They look so cheap and unappealing. Obviously, these won't be produced by WDAS. If they wanted to make shorts, why not continue making more in the vein of Frozen Fever and put some actual effort in it? They didn't have a problem doing that with Cars Toons and Toy Story Toons.

I have zero problem with this. The Star Wars LEGO shorts have been successful and entertaining and generally contain a dose of irreverence so as long as the formula isn't changed for the shorts, I'm down.

I hope they make shorts with the LEGO Disney Princess line with their original voices, too!

Seriously just stop.

I associate Lego animation with Warner Bros anyway. Why is Disney allowing their brands to be watered down like this? Aren't we kind of approaching the same DTV sequel bottomless pit that everyone worked so hard to get out of all these years?

So much trash ...

I'm pretty sure Frozen Fever isn't the last 'proper' Frozen short we will see.... And they are making the TV special after all. This definitely seems something that is "in addition to" and not "instead of."

I've never seen the appeal of these LEGO films either. They indeed to seem cheap and I don't like the way that the characters are malleable in a way that actual LEGOs are not. Otherwise, what's the point of them being LEGOs?

The LEGO Movie and its spin-offs are a different story though. I loved that film, which I thought was very creative with the world-building and animation and the way they used LEGOs, and I'm really looking forward to the Batman one next year.

I liked Legos as a kid and I still think the classic form of the toys are fun creative building toys for today's kids. Thats about the extent my like of the Legos brand goes for.

"Cheap?" Really? Clearly you've never made a brick film.
