I'm glad to see this thread up and running! I'll reserve this spot and update whenever I watch something. I'm thinking I'll probably start out with The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari; while it's not technically a horror film, it's German Expressionism and that kind of gets me in the Halloween spirit.

I watched Halloweentown on Disney Channel on Saturday while putting up some decorations. For many here, that's nothing unusual, but this is the first time Disney Channel proper has been in Canada, so I'll actually get their full Monstober line-up. Of course, we also know that having that semi-transparent logo bug at the bottom left corner of the screen makes the movie better, right?

It was also broadcast in widescreen which was...interesting. Obviously a SD upscale that was cropped, but for the mot part the framing didn't suffer too much.

I see they're showing Scream Team on Wednesday (!) and Phantom of the Megaplex on Saturday. Looking forward to them too.

Just finished watching Scream Team and they showed it in its OAR! You could tell because no one's heads were cut off and even though it was a 16:9 image, everyone stood in the middle of the screen. I really hope one day Disney releases this to DVD and/or Blu-ray.

We saw Crimson Peak last night. Totally not my choice of a film. I jumped a lot during it; I didn't like a lot of the story points, but some of it was good. The actors were great, though.

I really enjoyed Crimson Peak. It could be because I'm a fan of Gothic literature, but I loved the decaying house, the ghosts, the Sharpes' past coming to haunt them, and I kind of saw the whole incest thing from the beginning, which actually didn't spoil the film at all. I love Poe's stories, and Crimson Peak is right in that same vein.

I haven't seen many scary or gross movies at all, so this was a *little* more graphic than what I'm used to. And I'm a fan of the Flowers In The Attic book series, so it's not that I'm opposed to that being a story point, necessarily. I didn't like that No one but the audience suspected the Sharpes of Edith's dad's murder? No one?!? And, my boyfriend whispered to me, during the part when Edith tells Lucille that she & Thomas stayed the night at the Depot, that he thought that she wasn't the sister; I think that I would have liked Lucille being a wife more than I liked her being the sister. I did like, though, that Thomas truly cared for Edith. I wish Edith and Alan had gotten together early on...but it'd be a very different movie!!

I saw Crimson Peak as well, it's nice to know that we still have film-makers like Guillermo del Toro still working in Hollywood who usually turns out interesting films which are many genres instead of just one. This film is very beautiful to look at from beginning to end with the attention to detail from the sets, cinematography, and costumes. The story, while it is simple as all get out, it's still quite a nice story that reminds me of what would happen if Jane Eyre meets Edgar Allan Poe; honestly I knew that the Sharpe siblings were murderers I actually didn't see the incest twist coming. The characters are very good with talented actors to portray them, though Jessica Chastain has the best character and performance throughout the entire film in my opinion, she reminded me so much of Mrs. Danvers from Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca. Guillermo del Toro pays tribute to Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Robert Wise, and so many other great directors but at the same time throughout Crimson Peak he never loses his style in this and we need more films like this these days especially stories that use ghosts as part of something big instead of using ghosts all the time like other film do.

If I gave this a rating it would be a 4.5 out of 5, I liked this so much that I will see it again for the second time.

I've seen The Nightmare Before Christmas, ParaNorman, Hocus Pocus, The Witches of Eastwick (if that counts), Interview With a Vampire, Halloweentown, and several South Park Halloween episodes over the past few days, if any of those count.

Btw, I liked seeing the reviews here for Crimson Peak. I definitely had been getting a EAP vibe from the previews. I can't wait to see it.

We watched The Corpse Bride last night. It was the 2nd time I've seen that movie, and it is a really good one!

Last night I realized I hadn't watched any Halloween type films through the whole month of October so I watched one of my childhood favorites. The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966) always makes me laugh Don Knotts was brilliant in the film, one of the best of the 5 comedies he did for Universal. After I watched The Ghosts of Buxley Hall (1980), had bought the DVD last year had seen it years ago was just as cute as I remembered it. Highly recommend it to fans of obscure Disney films, also Ruta Lee who I've always been a huge fan of is brilliant as a Gold-digging middle aged woman who will go to any means to get her hands on money.
