D23 Expo 2015

Post by RyGuy »

Is anyone else going to the D23 Expo this year? I have my ticket for Friday and am really excited!

For anyone who has been before, how far in advance should one line up for a panel to better one's chances of entry? The panel I want to attend doesn't start until 3pm, but I'm going solo, so the day is mine to do with as I please. If I need to get in line when the event opens for the day, I will, lol. If it is that crazy, how far in advance of opening do I need to get there? I live about 25 minutes from DLR and plan to drive in that morning. TIA.

(Note to administrators: I searched for a previous thread and saw separate threads for 2011 and 2013, but nothing for 2015. I wasn't sure if protocol was to start a 2015 thread or to post to the 2013 thread? Please feel free to merge this thread as you feel is appropriate with my apologies for any additional work I've caused you)

Well... I'll be attending myself and I got a pass for the whole weekend. But I'm afraid I don't have the answers.

Thanks. Will take as many as I can and will post. I imagine much of it will be off limits to cameras, though.

Enjoy. I hope you also get some time at the parks, too?

If possible, could you please get some pictures of their Star Wars presentation or whatever they have? I'm a huge SW fan and would love to see them as long as they aren't spoilers for the new movie!

I'm just hoping for this:

-Roger Rabbit's return (call me obsessive with this, I know, I bring it up every single time! But I'm just saying with Disney and Amblin on good terms again and Spielberg making The BFG, now the chances are pretty good!) with Bonkers for good measure.
-DVD announcements for The Muppet Show Season 4/classic Muppet productions, Wander Over Yonder Season 1, and any Blu-ray/DVD Star Wars announcements (especially the OOT).

Been seeing whole bunch of amazing photos all over Instagram of the first day ... have a question though, for anyone who's there or might know ?

There are lots of kind of life size figures on display from the 'archives' its says (I can't zoom in); I just wondered where they were from ? Were they once used on rides ? Seen John & Michael, Alice, Wicked Queen so far ....

So sorry I can't link as its on Instagram. Any help would be very appreciated !

They are from previous versions of the Fantasyland dark rides in Disneyland. Both Peter Pan's Flight and Alice in Wonderland were recently upgraded so they got new figures of those characters. The older models will go to the archives in California.

Oh right I see ! Thank you so much for explaining, I wondered where they all came from ! The Alice figure on display doesn't look half as good as the one they have on the ride now, so a massive improvement really was made.

I'm quite green with envy about D23 ... would be so magical if they ever did anything like that over here. Would love for it to be held at Disneyland Paris !

Post by msh1975 »

THE REP TOLD ME THEY ARE VERY VERY AWARE OF THE MANY REQUEST FOR TITLES SUCH AS.....PRINCE AND THE PAUPER, HORSEMASTERS, MOSBYS MARAUDERS, LIGHT IN THE FOREST, COMPLETE SWAMPFOX SERIES AND OTHERS. THE REP TOLD ME THEY ARE WORKING ON IT AND ALOT HAS TO DO WITH LEGAL ISSUES, THATS THE HOLD UP. IT TOOK THEM A VERY LONG TIME TO GET APPROVAL FOR MR. BOOGEDY TO FINALLY COME OUT. REP SAID TO BE PATIENT AND KEEP WATCHING THE WEBSITE...........HINT HINT NEXT BLU-RAY COMING OUT....TREASURE ISLAND SOON.....NO DATE YET THOUGH. SO WE HAVE TO BE PATIENT ON THE OLDER STUFF DUE TO LEGAL ISSUES.......JUST WANTED TO LET EVERYONE KNOW.

Could they not be movie club exclusives? At the very least let them be available though Disney Movie Rewards like they did the DMC DVDs.

What he is saying is they might yet still be DMC titles. What is holding them up are films rights and clearance issues. It comes down to this: Does DIsney feel that say a film like The Prince and the Pauper will make enough money to pay for the various clearance issues the film has AND still make a profit? Nothing I didn't kind of know already, but it's still nice to hear that the powers that be know how the fans feel and what they want. :D

Disney likes doing anniversary editions for their Blu-ray exclusives, (even if the anniversary means nothing with regards to bonus content or superior packaging) so I could see a 65th Anniversary release for Treasure Island as making a lot of sense. Similarily, I could see a 40th Anniversary release for Escape to Witch Mountain coming this year too, but that's just speculation on my part.

Remember when Disney was slammed with lawsuits in the 80s following the initial home video releases of its animated features? It was because the participants involved did not agree to have their work sold to video (and how could they, when they were made decades before the advent of home video?). Sounds like Disney wants to avoid repeating that, which is why they're clearing the rights first.

msh1975:

Thanks for sharing that info. I have been emailing the DMC advocate on a periodic basis about prospective titles such as The Prince and the Pauper and Willie and the Yank. This is certainly encouraging news; I am cautiously optimistic that we might yet see more Walt-era live action titles be released as DMC DVD Exclusives (I'm happy that they have begun releasing Blu-Ray Exclusives for fans, but I definitely want to see them continue with DVD releases for the older live action titles).

Among my most coveted titles for release as DMC DVD Exclusives are:

The Prince and the Pauper (the complete series of 3 episodes starring Sean Scully and Guy Williams)
•The Pauper King 3/11/62
• The Merciful Law of the King 3/18/62
• Long Live the Rightful King 3/25/62

The Secret of Boyne Castle (the complete series of 3 episodes)

• Part 2 2/16/69
• Part 3 2/23/69

The Sign of Zorro (a theatrical film culled from episodes from the Zorro television show)

Zorro the Avenger (a theatrical film culled from episodes from the Zorro television show)

The Horsemasters

The Light in the Forest (it is currently available for sale via Disney Educational Products, but a DMC Exclusive release of the full version for a cheaper price would be preferable)

And in the "pipe dream" department:

The Tales of Texas John Slaughter (the complete series of 17 episodes; starring Tom Tryon)
•Texas John Slaughter 10/31/58
•Ambush at Laredo 11/14/58
