Popeye? Disney or Paramount DVD?

Post by 2099net »

Being as Popeye is a joint Disney/Paramount production and releaded by Paramount in the US, will we be discussing the DVD release here or not?

And do you think the rest of the world will get a better Buena Vista release? (We know it couldn't be worse!)

Paramount is the very worst in the Special Features department. Most of their discs are bare-boned. All animation discs have an annoying trailer for "Charlotte's Web 2."

BUT: Paramount supports Widescreen for ALL of its movies! Disney can't seem to figure that one out yet!

I'm sure Disney's UK release will be widescreen [*] :) All in all any UK release from Beuna Vista can't be worse than the Paramount release... but will it be better?

[*] The only movie they haven't really released in widescreen in the UK is Muppet's Christmas Carol (which I think may have been a mistake - as the widescreen version was submitted and certified by the BBFC!)

Popeye and Dragonslayer, the two Paramount/Disney co-productions. As Maltin's book says, unfortunately Disney's input was merely financial - Popeye could have used some creative inspiration, a point with which I agree.

Dragonslayer is coming out in October, finally. Never seen that one.

Don't forget that they charge SE prices for those bare-boned discs too...

I believe that Popeye is more of Paramount than of Disney.
