3D question - beauty and the beast

Post by MeerkatKombat »

Beauty and the Beast is getting a 3D re-release in the UK on November the 10th.

I have very little interest in it for the 3D but I am kinda interested in the colour aspect.
I found this on the British video association website - is this true? I don't have a 3D player or TV and can't say I'm in any rush to go '3D'.
If I buy a 3D Blu‐ray movie, can I play it on my older non‐3D player?
Yes, but you will see the movie in 2D. Although, there are exceptions: some Blu‐ray players – such as the PlayStation®3 – can be upgraded with a firmware update, so that they are able to output the full‐resolution 3D signal.

I am wondering if where there was a 2d release of Beauty and the Beast, Disney may have prevented the playback of the 3D disc on a 2D player. Can anyone enlighten me if this is the case? Apparently - Disney Christmas Carol which has a 3D and 2D release - the 3D wont play in 2D so I imagine it will be the same for BatB?
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.

Hi there, I recently tracked down the 3D combo pack of Beauty and The Beast as over the last few years I had fallen majorly behind on my Disney blu-ray collection. Unless I'm mistaken all 3D disc (not just Disney) require a 3D blu-ray player. It's a bit like trying to play a standard blu-ray on a DVD player. The technology isn't backwards compatible.

However others have posted on this forum in the past that the disc is view-able in 2D on a 3D television and player when the appropriate settings are selected.

Hope that helps!

3D Blu-ray Discs will not play unless all your hardware is compatible like your TV and player. You will get and error message stating either or is not compatible.

JustOneBite, I just have to ask where in the world did you find a 3D Beauty and the Beast this late in the game? I'm kicking myself as that's one of the few digital copies I don't have (I bought the regular BR/DVD Combo pack at the time).

Thanks. I didn't think Disney would make them 2D compatible because it came with a 2D disc.
I was just asking although if someone wants to check this on a 2D setup to check for me I'd be grateful. :D

Saves me some money at least.

I hunted for a decent deal on ebay for several weeks before finding a slightly mislabeled auction that had both B&TB and The Lion King 3D combo packs in one lot together. Ended up getting them for a combined price of around $70 which is just an OK amount considering their full retail value but it could have ended up being far more expensive. Delighted to have the digital copies in my DMA and itunes libraries now! Also the rewards points allowed me to get the 3D combo pack of Tangled from DMR so that was a great bonus.
