Has Disney finally stopped releasing 2-disk movies?

Post by Rumpelstiltskin »

I really hope so. I can't stand it when there is more than one disc unless there is so much extra material that another one is required. And these days, that is rarely if ever.

Blu-ray/DVD combo packs have to be at least two-disc (note correct spelling - not like your subject line!) sets. Sometime they are three disc or more, depending on if you buy 3-D or 2-D Blu-rays.
The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!

I think Disney has finally stopped releasing them. Kinda sad though cause this means that the special features are going down.

I believe the last blu-ray to have 2 discs was Lion King Diamond Edition.

Actually, if memory serves, the last one was Beauty and the Beast.

I miss 2 disc sets. The fact that we've now come to just 1 disc sets* is a sign that the age of extra features has passed us!

*Yes, I know that many Blu-ray's come with one or two extra discs, but I'm not counting the film in different formats as the same thing as a decade ago when we got a second disc full of extra features!

I wonder if they're hoarding the special features for when they want us to buy everything again on their new digital platform.

And why is that? I'm not trying to sound condescending, but I want to know.

That's a relief to hear if correct. As long as it can all be stored on a single disc, two discs is one too much. There is also a limit for how often you can add the same material, and I don't care about games or sing-along songs. And why not just sell separate discs regarding the classics, like "the story behind Sleeping Beauty" if there is enough material. I feel there is a market for those type of documentaries.

It could even be enough with a single disc in a future Lady and the Tramp release, where they have included both the CinemaScope and the Academy ratio versions.

There's also the issue that less people are buying dvds nowadays, and the internet, like it or not, is slowly killing physical media.

Why sell a full two or three disc movie set when no one is buying?

I preferred the old 2 disc special editions, but even I have found that I just don't buy them anymore. And remember a lot of disney fans already bought the big special edition sets when they first came to DVD, so unless the collectors out there are going to be repeat buyers, they're never going to sell as well as they did.

I loved the 2 disc sets and I know it silly but I did feel like I was getting more for my money. Some of the films deserved two disc sets but we never got them. My two disc sets are my pride and joy, they felt more complete and like more care had gone into them. Some of the one disc sets feel so haphazardly put together its almost embarrassing. There has been a drop in bonus features. The Lion King and Fantasia bluray were one disc are pretty terrible.

With bluray, the 2 discs aren't needed so much anymore but I do like bonus features and wish Disney would carry over the old ones.
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.
