Are you happy about the Hannah Montana fever being over?

Post by DisneyFan09 »

I'm not going to be a hypocrite. I shall confess that I used to watch "Hannah Montana" and consider (back at the time) the show to be enjoyable (everyone knows how I deeply despise the movie, but that's another case). However, I didn't like how the Hannah Montana suddenly became a huge phenomenon, being practically everywhere and destroying Disney's reputation. The show was cute enough, but the enormous hype around it became annoying after a while, since it (and Miley Cyrus) was overexposed. So therefore I'm glad the hype is finally over. Nowadays Miley gets hype for very understandable reasons, but it still not as annoying as the "Hannah" hype. Anyone else agrees? I want constructive answers, please.

It seems the Disney Channel mostly happened during the times when Disney wasn't so hot in movies. Once Princess and the Frog started the new era of good disney movies the TV chanell has gone underground.

True, but you still didn't answered my question. Sorry, I'm not trying to be condescending, but I want a more specific answer.

Hannah Montana's popularity never had any real impact on me whatsoever, cause I've always cared about Disney more for it's animation than for teen sitcoms. I get no loss out of the show being over. When it comes to Disney Channel I was too busy watching Lilo & Stitch: The Series, or Phineas & Ferb in more recent years.

I got to be honest, I didn't mind watching Hannah Montana. I did find it quite enjoyable but I was/am quite a bit older than the intended age demographic so I could ignore the hype with ease.
It was good fun to watch if there was nothing else on but I've never taken to Miley Cyrus. These days, I really wish she would take a hike.
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.

Meh, the fear that Disney the Channel would usurp Disney the company has been dead since the peak of HSM's popularity. For a good while now, the channel and the company have been doing their own things, and only intersect so rarely.

Personally, I don't really care, and I don't think I ever did.

The Hanna Montana thing was preceded by the Lizzie McGuire craze. I admire Hilary Duff, mainly because she never got into trouble like many other ex-Disney actors, but I hated how shows like Lizzie McGuire set the agenda for bland tween comedies for The Disney Channel.

Seems nowadays, they're less reliant on that particular identity, and are broadening up again.

True. I used to like "Lizzie McGuire" and Hilary Duff a lot when I was younger and I still admire her for having more dignity and poise than her peers. She's (in my opinion) more likeable and prettier than Cyrus (no offense to Cyrus).

As that being said, although "Lizzie McGuire" preceded the hype for "Hannah Montana", the shows and concepts were still different, so the comparisons are pointless. Yes, sure both shows had certain archetypes that are in tween shows; a girl protagonist with a two friends of opposite sex, a bully, an annoying sibling and wise parents. But "Lizzie McGuire" was about an ordinary teenage girl and her problems (although it's always baffled me that Kate, who was less hotter, was more popular than Lizzie), while "Hannah Montana" was about a girl living a secret life as a popstar. At least "Lizzie McGuire The Movie" had the popstar plot, but that's about it.

I shall confess that some of her songs were pretty catchy.
and the movie was awesome.
While I've criticized the movie before, I shall confess that it's not awful. It shall have praise for at least not feeling like an extended episode. Actually, there are parts of the movie that are enjoyable. However, it's flaws are hampering the film. I don't mind the unoriginal storyline, but the problems with the concept of Hannah Montana are bigger in the film (does the entire Crowley Corners live under a rock, considering that none of them recognize Miley's voice as Hannah during the "Hoedown Throwdown" sequence). Besides, the movie's muddled tone, awkward slapstick jokes and not to mention hypocritical and weak ending makes it harder to swallow.

I'm nor happy, nor sad that the HM fever is over, even though I enjoyed watching it.
