James Avery Dead at 65: Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's Uncle Phil Dies in L.A. Hospital
http://omg.yahoo.com/news/james-avery-d ... eekly.html
ames Avery has died at the age of 65. The actor -- best known for playing Uncle Philip Banks on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air -- died at an L.A. hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

According to TMZ, Avery recently underwent a surgery for an undisclosed illness. His wife, Barbara Avery, was at the hospital at the time of his death.

Avery starred in Fresh Prince with Will Smith from 1990 to 1996. Shortly after his passing, his onscreen son, Alfonso Ribeiro, addressed about the loss via Twitter.

"I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly," the 42-year-old wrote, also sharing a picture of Avery with his wife.

Avery went on to appear in several other TV series, including The Jamie Foxx Show, The Division, That '70s Show, The Closer and Grey's Anatomy.
He was also the voice of The Shredder from the first Ninja Turtles Cartoon Series. On some of the classic Turtles DVD he takes part in a roundtable type of interview reflecting about being Shredder.

Here's one of those interviews

James Avery, Uncle Phil on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, dead at

Post by jazzflower92 »

Sadly, the actor James Avery who gave us great characters like Uncle Phil and the Shredder passed away on New Years. It would be in the off topic section but the reason its here is because James Avery actually voiced a television Disney character. Anyone who is a fan of the Aladdin animated series would remember Haroud Hazi Bin who was the sidekick to Abis Mal.

Actually, it's in the Movies, Music & TV section, as disneyboy20022 alreday started a thread about this.

Rest in Peace.

I never realized he voiced him. That's cool

EDIT

It seems he was also the voice of Br'er Bear from 1992 to 2011. That's even more amazing

I remember overhearing his voice one time, and originally thought he was yelling at Bebop and Rocksteady. Turned out, it was at Will and Carlton. :D

Rest In Peace, James Avery! You definitely made "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" a fun show to watch.
