The Divulgations of One Desmond Leica

Post by TheSequelOfDisney »

Hey, everyone! Perhaps you've noticed a new addition to my signature: a link to my blog! I've only had it for about two weeks, but I'm having a great time writing. I'm just bringing it up here on UD/DVDizzy just in case anyone would care to take a glance. I mainly focus on films, but I'm planning to branch out into other topics, too (for instance, I just posted about elephants). My latest post is about chiaroscuro (the contrast between light and dark) in Charles Laughton's The Night of the Hunter, with a part 2 about Ingmar Bergman's The Magician coming soon.

If anyone's interested, here's the page of the blog: http://desmondleica.wordpress.com/.

I'll continue to update this thread when I have new blog posts. And I would greatly appreciate any kind of feedback! Thanks :D!

Here's my newest post: Light and Shadows - Part 2. I talk about Ingmar Bergman's 1958 film The Magician (Swedish: Ansiktet) and how the mood and tone of the film is created because of the distinctive contrast between light and dark. Enjoy!

I would love to hear comments and feedback!

And here's a link to part 1, just in case: Light and Shadows - Part 1. I talk about chiaroscuro in Charles Laughton's 1955 film The Night of the Hunter, one of my all-time favorite films.

Excellent observations about the symbolism in The Night of the Hunter (particularly the comments on how Rachel becomes the hunter, and Willa's appearance as an angel). I would love to hear what you have to say about Kubrick's films. The Saul Bass style design of the website looks wonderful.

Thank you! I really love The Night of the Hunter, so I quite enjoy writing about it. I've only ever seen Kubrik's The Shining and part of A Clockwork Orange, both which are very interesting and creepy, haha. And the Saul Bass design was my first choice on Wordpress (plus it was one of the free designs, so it was a no-brainer).

I've just posted about the Blu-ray of Studio Ghibli's From Up on Poppy Hill: From Up on Poppy Hill Blu-ray Gets Detailed. I've even included a pre-order link that helps support UD/DVDizzy!

The latest: The Night of the Hunter Blu-ray Unboxing. Just a brief summary of what we get from Criterion's Blu-ray of the film and some pictures (for a closer look). I highly recommend the film and this set!

There's a James Dean Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-ray Set coming soon! There will also be individual DigiBook releases of Dean's three films (East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant). I've not seen any of these three films, but it's sure exciting for those who are fans of James Dean.

Thanks, Julian! I've seemed to have misplaced that Lollipop a long time ago...

Here's something a little bit different: Shakespeare's Sonnet 73.
