Top Ten Disney Villians!!!
Ok, so I got to thinking about the Disney Feature Animation canon (from Snow White to Wreck-it-Ralph), and the Disney Villians. Why? Every great story needs a great villian, and over the years Disney has given us some of the best and some of the worst. One of the things that made Disney movies special for me when I was growing up, were the villians. They were soooo menacing!!! I'll never forget the goosebumps I got the first time I saw Maleficent turn to a dragon and Ursula grow giant! I wish Disney gives us a new unforgettable mega-villian again, since over the last 15 years or so, most of the new villains have been ordinary, non-magical humans. The last big one for me was Jafar, in 1992's "Aladdin", and only recently we have seen two who have been close to that: Dr. Facilier from 2009's "The Princess and the Frog" and Mother Gothel from 2010's "Tangled" (A.k.a. Rapunzel). So, lets get this countdown started. I will give you mine and then I would love to see yours and see your take on this... just for fun, of course! I have grouped them in 3 different categories: 1) All Time Top 10, 2) Top Ten Non-Magical Humas, and 3) Top Ten Evil Animals. So vote for your favorites, and enjoy!
(Note. This countdown only includes films in the official Walt Disney Feature Animation Studios canon. No Pixar, or Direct-To-Video films are included here. Please stick to this formula.)

Winkie probably seems to be an odd choice; I assure you, I didn't put him in there just because I was running out of human villains. I like John Silver and Shan-Yu as well, and they could have gone on the list if it was longer (and, amongst the lesser known villains, the comical Brom Bones would have gone into, say, the top fifteen).
I just find Winkie rather creepy. His perpetual, clearly fake smile is unnerving, and he's quite violent in the climax scene in Toad Hall during the chase for the deed.

I'm not bothering with multiple lists. Just one. A top ten. As a huge fan of Disney Villains, this was incredibly difficult. And my rankings DO tend to change around a lot.
1. Judge Claude Frollo
2. Professor Ratigan
3. Jafar
4. Ursula
5. Scar
6. Hades
7. Gaston
8. Shere Khan
9. The Evil Queen
10. Maleficent
Lady Tremaine and Cruella De Vil just BARELY missed making the cut. This isn't an objective list, but a personal ranking. I prefer Hades to Lady Tremaine, for instance, but recognize Lady Tremaine is a better villain. Scar is another that, objectively, I realize isn't as well-done as Cruella De Vil, but he's got the childhood nostalgia factor in his favor. Hell, if I were being objective, I would probably have to include The Coachman in the top ten. But, since I'm playing favorites, his creepy ass isn't anywhere near my list.

Yeah, I'm just gonna exclude magical only's and animal only's.
All-Time
1. Maleficent

3. Chernabog
4. Judge Claude Frollo
5. Shan-Yu
6. Jafar
7. Carnotaur
8. Hades
9. Scar
10. King Candy/Turbo
I would have included such villains like Davy Jones or Maestro Forte, but no Live Actions or Sequels were allowed.

You guys are doing awesome!!! Let´s keep it going!
I love Disney Villains. But I feel that Disney has not given us a good, scary villain in a long time. Most of the recent ones are nothing but bumbling and comical bufoons (Except perhaps Dr. Facilier and Mother Gothel, to an extent), or just ordinary mean and greedy humans. Don´t you guys think it´s about time we get a Disney movie with a good, deep, profound story (like Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, The Lion King, etc. - without the heavy comedy and slapstick that seems to be in every Disney flick nowadays) and a REAL DISNEY VILLIAN, an awesome, evil, magical and completely sinister villain and then mega-villian that meets a deliciously gruesome and fitting end? (Aka, Maleficent, Ursula, The Evil Queen, Jafar, among others). Yeah, one of those you are not likely to forget... ever!!!
Keep your countdowns coming!!!

I dunno. King Candy's kind of creepy especially after his reveal as TurboAngeldude98 wrote:You guys are doing awesome!!! Let´s keep it going!

I would love another one of the magical/powerful villains. Dr Facilier didn't have enough screen time, but he was along the right lines. Gothel is also along the right lines, but I doubt the villain in Snow Queen will be the antagonist we want the most: she's more of an anti-villain type character, probably someone who would reform afterwards. Many 21st Century Disney villains are unlike the traditional concept of villains (Denahi, Gantu, Mike Yagoobian, etc.) or, as you said, they're just rather dull human characters in it for the money (Rourke and Alameda Slim, and, earlier, the likes of Clayton and Ratcliffe). Perhaps the increasing complexity of villains is just a natural evolution for cinema, and even Disney has to jump on the bandwagon or become too atavistic: the heroes are darker, and the villains are lighter.Angeldude98 wrote:You guys are doing awesome!!!

Sorry but those lists are just too hard and my poor brain might explode from over-thinking too much. Top 10 is so much easier.
1. Judge Claude Frollo ( I don't think I need to explain ? )
2. Professor Ratigan ( Vincent Price, and he's so perfect to rivial our hero )
3. Ursula ( So cunning and calculating, and love her song )
4. Turbo ( I loved how Nightmare Fuelish and threatening he was )
5. The Evil Queen ( I love how creepy and disturbing she can be )
6. Dr. Facilier ( He was pretty I guess... more outgoing and jazzy )
7. Hades ( The Car salesman persona was different and neat )
8. Lady Tremaine ( She's a cold, heartless bitch )
9. Maleficent ( I feel like she's so overrated, but she's still cool )
10. Shere Khan ( I love his posh, uperclass English voice )
Changed list to add in Turbo from Ralph.

Maleficent isn't that overrated! I mean it's not like she's getting her own movie

Re: Top Ten Disney Villians!!!
My one criteria was which villian was truly evil to their core based on the film they were in.
One note, I have only seen The Black Cauldron once years ago and don't really remember it. I see The Horned King is listed in several lists. Since I have no recollection of him and the story I have not included him in my list.
1. Maleficent
2. Scar
3. Ursula
4. Evil Queen
5. Frollo
6. Jafar
7. Madame Medusa
8. Lady Tremaine
9. Mother Gothel
10. Cruella DeVil
