American Idol 12 ~ CANDICE GLOVER WINS!!!
So…
Season 12 of American Idol begins on January 16th, 2013, with judges Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and Nicki Minaj, and host Ryan Seacrest.
I had really looked forward to this season once I thought Randy was gone (or at least retired to a behind-the-scenes role), but I believe they brought him back at the last second to help mediate between Mariah and Nicki. Curses. Regardless, I do like Keith Urban and I’m hoping Mariah can help fix the issue with the winners by cutting out the indie non-singers. They very literally need to massacre the white guys before they even get to the live shows if they want to stand a chance of crowning a deserving singer again.
Despite the winner, I’m sure there’ll be a few good contestants to look forward to, just like every year.

After the "fix" was in for last season and that no-talent Phillip Phillips won I vowed to never watch AI again. Now with that 'street-ho' Minaj on the panel I won't even given this a second thought. How can a no-talent spot real talent and why did they think she would be such a great addition to the panel. She is all plastic and all no-talent, and I am all gone this year.
I will continue to watch "The Voice" and "The 'X' Factor in the seasons to come because I truly think that they have gotten it right for a change.

I have a feeling this might be the last season of American Idol

I have the same feeling. I don't know anyone interested in the new season of Idol.disneyboy20022 wrote:I have a feeling this might be the last season of American Idol
I guess some of the judges may be ok, but I feel the show has run its course. I don't think its fair to say Phillip is the reason the show is failing. His single has been pretty successful compared to some recent winners. Anyway the show has been on a slow downhill journey the past few years (especially after Simon left).
In my opinion The Voice is a much better show, with better talent. Although I'm having mixed feelings on that show too with Season 4 arriving and new judges. Hopefully its temporary and Season 5 is back to "normal", or I'm wrong and the new judges are great.

I don't think this'll be the last season, but it's clearly on a downward climb. After the next year or so, with the current ratings decline, I don't think they'll have the money to buy judges like Mariah Carey anymore.
I only continue to watch because I've watched since season 2.
There's at least one person every year that I like, if nothing else.

Wish I can say this is going to be the last season but it ain't. Why? Because it has higher ratings than The X-Factor and FOX is making more money from AI. I can say that this is going to be the 1st and last season of Mariah Carey. Nicki Minaj, and Tim Urban. AI producers needs to get Fergie, Queen Latifah, or someone who is likable/crazy. Maybe bring back JLo and Steve for next season. This season would have been boring if it wasn't for Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj arguments.
Going to continue seeing AI if I have time or there's room for the DVR (cause I rather be see/record a scripted show).
I'll stick with The Voice. That's the only singing competition that is very interesting and entertaining.

Note to AladdinFan:
Don't know where you got all your figures. According to Nielsen the ratings for the first show on Wednesday were down 17% and that's a far cry from the average 28% that "The Voice" carries and the 27% that "The 'X' Factor" did last year.
I am not watching because of the what happened with the finals last year when that no-talent Phillip Phillips was chosen as the American Idol.
Plus I won't watch the show as low as that 'street-ho' Nikki Minaj is on the judging panel.
I totally believe that this is the last season for American Idol. Besides I do prefer "The Voice" and "The 'X' Factor" over this garbage.

I thought the judges made near-perfect choices for the top 5 girls. The stand-out’s for me were Angela Miller (who I want an album of right now), Adriana and Amber, although I liked others as well. Kree was a very good singer, though I don't like that genre so much. I did think Isabelle, Jenny Willis, and Shubha all had potential (Isabelle reminded me a lot of Jordin Sparks, who I loved), but I think the best were chosen. The only switch I might’ve made is Isabelle for Teena. Teena could be better than she seems, since Mariah loves her, but I don’t think she was very good on Natasha Bedingfield’s “Soulmate” (one of my favorites by that artist). I liked Brandy’s song choice (Travis Tritt is so ignored), but I wish a better singer had performed the song.
Overall, I think the judges are much better than JLO and Steven Tyler. They were much more critical, which I liked, and didn’t hold back on some of the back song/singing/wardrobe choices. I love Mariah on the show; she's hilarious. I’m impressed so far, and I hope Idol can get itself back on track this year.

My favorite of the boys was/is definitely Devin and Elijah (both their song choices were perfect, imo). I also liked Paul Jolley (why couldn’t he have won instead of Scotty McCreery? Why?! He can actually sing). Curtis is arguably the best singer, of the men, but I thought he was kind of boring. The only person eliminated that I thought shouldn’t have been was Johnny Keyser--who is so much better than Charlie (who made it through), it’s not funny. I suspect he was eliminated to keep out the attractive, (straight,) white guy that they don’t want to win this year, considering the last 5 winners. And I’m okay with that.
The way they have it now, I do think a woman will win, but if not--at least we’ll have a non-white male winner. Which is better than nothing, I guess.
I would be willing to overlook it if Devin won; I loved him, and I haven’t felt that way about a contestant this early on before. Whatever happens, I hope he gets an album at the end of the season.
Regardless, besides Teena and Charlie, I wouldn’t mind any of these people winning. We still have to get the other ten next week though. They’re definitely trying to fix this show, but I don’t know if the ratings will be there for it. (I don’t think it’ll get cancelled though.)

when American Idol is on W.E.D.nesday I'm doing something else while my dad is watching Idol.
By the way does anyone know how this is doing in the ratings and does anyone think this will be the last season at this point?

American Idol, at the moment, is averaging around 13-14 million viewers --still 1 to 2 million more viewers than the last season of The Voice. Idol opened at 18 million viewers in the first episode (5 million above the highest-rated episodes of The Voice's most recent season). And at 13-14 million, Idol is averaging 3 to 5 million more than the last season of The X Factor. It is down from last year's season of American Idol, which averaged around 16-17 million. There are likely several reasons for that (singing competition viewer fatigue, the bad winners streak the show has had, and the change in judges). I'd also point out that most old shows, including Idol, lose around a million viewers every year, so it isn't too unusual that the ratings drop.
American Idol won't be canceled until its ratings drop to 8 million or below, I would guess--considering The X Factor has been renewed for a third season despite having ratings below 10 million. Although its winners have been less relevant than in the past, Phillip Phillips' "Home" was a smash single--passing Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," Jordin Sparks' "No Air," and Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" and becoming the best-selling song by an American Idol contestant at above 4 million sales. And even though I hate him, Scotty McCreery did have a Platinum album, while Kris Allen and Lee DeWyze failed to do so like all the preceding winners. I'm guessing Phillips will also score a Platinum album eventually thanks to "Home." The Voice and The X Factor have both failed to create an artist that's had any substantial success with their albums or singles. Overall, Idol is still the reigning king of reality show singing competitions.
I think The X Factor will be cancelled eventually, since Fox already has Idol. The Voice will probably stay around just because NBC doesn't have any other singing competitions. Otherwise, I'd expect it to cancelled before Idol, too.

I don’t think I liked the girls this week as much as the girls from last week, but they definitely chose some with more potential than was shown. Aubrey Cleland made a bad song choice with “Sweet Dreams” (which was done to perfection by Jessica Sanchez last season), but I think she can do much better so I’m glad she made it through. I also liked Candice and Janelle’s voices, even though they didn’t choose the best songs for them either (“Natural Woman” and “Just a Kiss,” respectively). Zoanette did a good version of “Circle of Life”--although I’m not sure it was as good as when Jennifer Hudson did it on the show years ago--but I just wonder where she can go from here, or what she could sing that would suit her. My least favorite choice was Breanna Steer, although it’s possible she just made a bad song choice as well. I really hated that they eliminated Juliana Chahayed, whose cover of “Skycraper” was the best of the night to me, even though I wasn’t crazy about her style of singing.
Overall, we have at least 7 very strong girls, who can sing well, who are pretty, and also likable. As long as they keep any white guys from getting in tomorrow, a girl might finally reign again.

Tonight was the worst of the 4 Sudden Death rounds to me. I didn't really like anyone, though there were a few good singers. I suppose the best, for me, would be either Cortez Shaw or Vincent Powell. Lazaro Arbos is clearly another Zoanette/Charlie (put through mostly for entertainment value, with very little chance of winning). Josh Holliday probably deserved to stay, but I love the fact that they're annihilating all the cute, white guys this year (so thankfully there isn't a Lee, Scotty, or Phillip repeat in the works). Overall, I think they made the best choices. I definitely prefer this panel to JLO.
Out of the 20 contestants that were chosen, the ones I would like to win (so far): Angela Miller, Devin Velez, Aubrey Cleland, Amber Holcomb. There are several others who could win and they would deserve it based on their vocals, but these have been my all-around favorites. Devin is the only guy I would accept winning this year, although I hope Angela will take it all. She's beautiful, great singer, with a gorgeous voice.

Can't believe how many are still watching this lame show. American Idol has worn out its welcome with me, and after the debacle last season, I have actually not even missed not watching this season's shows.
For two main reasons I will not watch AI. That 'street-ho clown' Nikki Minaj, one of the biggest no-talented people on this earth, and they expect her to be a good judge. I am fine with Keith Urban and Mariah Carey, but why a fourth judge. They are trying to similate "The Voice", and "The 'X' Factor", shows which have four judges, but used in a totally different manor than AI does.
"The Voice" returns on March 25, we also have two new mentors, Usher and Shakira join Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. And we don't have to sit through embarrassing tryouts for people who can't really sing are used for entertainment and time consumption on AI. "The 'X' Factor" still uses some lame singers in their first couple of shows, but get to the business of filling up their teams quickly. AI drags on and on before the American public gets to vote, and by then they have basically decided who is going to win. The debacle between Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez last season was the straw that broke the camel's back in my book. Phillips is totally wrong for the image of Idol, but now that they have shown they don't really care, it is time for those of us who want to see real singers and real people with talent, to move on. I don't think we will see a Season 13 of Idol, and if we do, it will be the last season.
If I read that Nikki Minaj is gone from the judges panel before we get to vote, then I will watch this season, otherwise, I will just patiently wait for "The Voice" in three weeks.

@disneyboy: I‘ve never watched America’s Got Talent because I thought it was odd to compare dancing to singing to juggling, etc. And I really hated Piers, Hasselhoff, and Sharon Osbourne most of all. I heard they cast Mel B as Sharon’s replacement, and I actually like her, so I might watch it for once.
I would be more excited about those two shows, except none of the contestants they feature ever go on to be a success. Why would I invest myself in singers who I know I'll never see again once the show is over? Whereas Phillip Phillips, a contestant I don‘t even like, managed to sell 4 million of his debut single.
I'm surprised you quit the show because of Phillip Phillips though; he was several steps above Scotty McCreery, honestly. As for Nicki Minaj, I'm not surprised you would hate her (I would expect you to hate JLO, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Shakira as well), but she's actually been the best judge so far. Shows don't end just because you aren't watching them, dvdjunkie, otherwise Glee wouldn't have made it through its first season.
As far as I know, American Idol had four judges before either The Voice or The X Factor existed in the U.S.Avaitor wrote:What do you mean AI is stealing from The Voice and X-Factor by using 4 judges? I'm not even watching the show, but this isn't the first time they've had 4 judges.

I thought the semifinals were decent for the most part. Highlights for me: Angela’s “Never Gone” and Nick’s “Iris.” Tonight, they’ll cut it down to the 10 finalists (with a possible wildcard). My picks:
1. Angela Miller
2. Amber Holcomb
3. Kree Harrison
4. Candice Glover
5. Aubrey Cleland
1. Devin Velez
2. Elijah Liu
3. Nick Boddington
4. Cortez Shaw
5. Vincent Powell
I’m not so picky about the guys. The above are the ones who I think are the best, but I won’t mind any of them getting cut if it’ll pave the way for a female winner (I’d be okay with any of the above women winning, though I’d prefer Angela most of all). As an aside, I was very excited to see Paul Jolley perform Christina’s “Just a Fool.” He wasn’t great, but it was nice to see a performance of the song nonetheless.

Most all of "The Voice" contestants, winners or losers, have had better success than those who have appeared on "The 'X' Factor".
"American Idol" leads the pack because they have had good judges in the past, and I know this isn't the first time they have had four judges, but there is no need for a fourth judge on AI, because they don't form teams like they do on "The 'X' Factor" or "The Voice".
If you follow the ratings, "American Idol" on Wednesdays is getting about a 5.6 share of the audience, while the Thursday night show has lower ratings at about 5.0 (According to EW.com).
Terry Fator, who won the second season of "America's Got Talent" just renewed his contract with The Mirage in Las Vegas. He originally signed a 10-year $100 million deal, and most recently they restructured his contract for another six years and his total earning will above the $150 million mark. He is the biggest success from "America's Got Talent".
If "Idol" gets renewed for another season, and makes a better choice of judges, then I might come back to watch. This is the first year that I have not watched "American Idol" since it began. While Keith Urban is among my favorite Country artists, I don't believe that 'street-ho clown' Nikki Minaj or Mariah Carey are great choices for judges. The only show I watched was the first night of 'auditions', and Nikki acted like she really didn't want to be there, and every time Mariah tried to make a counter point of something that Minaj said, she acted like a kid who takes his football home is he doesn't get to play.

The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!
