So while I was writing that huge post about Jim Hill's rant, I began to think further about Muppet Vision 3D. In my thread, I used it as an example of a WDW attraction that may need to get updated or refurbished because it seemed to lack polish when I visited it last July. Then I got to thinking... if they were indeed to update it, why not go all the way and create a brand new Muppet Vision 3D movie?
Here's why I came up with that idea... When I saw the show last July, one of the TV monitors on the pre-show was busted. I thought "Well, shouldn't the TVs be HD TVs by now?". But then I realized that the pre show movie has been shot to make use of the 4:3 format. Not to mention that the pre-show has been built so that the TVs are surrounded by props.
So if they were to update it, they might as well go all the way. The Muppets was very successful with fans and critics, and most likely renewed interest in the franchise. So using the talent that made the movie a hit, they could do a Muppet Vision 3D Part 2, and incorporate characters like Pepe, Bobo and Walter, and the 4D effects could be upgraded so the immersion is better and the show more successful.
Now, I see that this would be a controversial choice since people adore the original movie. I loved the movie, it was hilarious. It was also the very last thing Jim Henson worked on regarding the Muppets, so Muppet fans would feel like Disney is ripping their hearts and doing a two step tango on them. Yet, Muppet Vision 3D I feel is in need of a deep TLC treatment, and I think going all the way with a brand new movie (or a remake of the original, that works too) would help it greatly.

I enjoy the attraction, but I definitely think it and the land as a whole are ticking time bombs. Not saying I think any announcements are forthcoming. I think Disney has bigger fish to fry before they come for the Muppets in DHS.
Is there a Jim Henson museum? Maybe if Disney removes the attraction, the show and the animatronics could be moved to a museum and still performed. I know there is a museum of puppetry in Atlanta, perhaps they have a suitable space?
I really enjoyed the Muppets show about American history in Liberty Square— they should have kept that! That was such a genius way of utilizing the Muppets IP and really added some fun to that area of the park. The Muppets should take over the Hall of Presidents next!

I completely agree with you about the Muppets attraction being a ticking time bomb. It's a shame, because I think the Muppets have so much potential in the parks. I love the idea of moving the show and animatronics to a Jim Henson museum or the puppetry museum in Atlanta - that would be a great way to preserve the attraction and still allow fans to enjoy it. And I'm totally with you on the Muppets show about American history in Liberty Square - that was a fantastic use of the IP and added so much fun to the area. The Muppets taking over the Hall of Presidents would be amazing!UmbrellaFish wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 5:21 am I enjoy the attraction, but I definitely think it and the land as a whole are ticking time bombs.
