Disney World Question

Post by drfsupercenter »

Hey guys,

Yes, I'm back from a 3-year idle time.

My family and I are in Orlando and just visited the Magic Kingdom today for the first time in years.

Given my bad luck, we got stuck on Pirates of the Caribbean.
(I'm reminded of a certain line in Jurassic Park about the pirates not eating the tourists :D )

Now, I'm curious... how exactly does a ride like that break? We had to sit there for an hour (literally), the boats just stopped moving and they were all lined up in a row unable to move. Isn't that just a simple track system that pulls the boat along?

It's weird, because I also was on Jurassic Park's ride at Universal Studios when that broke down... seems these water-boat rides suffer it more than anything else.

Anybody want to give me a rundown on how the Pirates ride works and how it can break to the point where it takes them an hour to get us off?

They kept trying to power-cycle the motors for about half an hour before trying to get people to help, I must say it was quite disappointing. You'd think their first priority would be to get everyone off the ride, THEN fix it. I understand trying to power-cycle it immediately after the ride stops working, but after one unsuccessful try you'd think they would evacuate...

I also thought it was funny how they yelled at everybody for taking videos of them walking around behind the scenes of the ride... eventually they just told us not to use the flash since it would blind them. You'd think after we were stuck on a ride for an hour we'd have the right to videotape them getting people off it. We were given fast-passes to get on any ride without waiting, and thanks to my parents making a fuss we now have 16 fast-passes, going to Epcot tomorrow and hopefully having a fun time with those
