Oh God No... (The Little Mermaid DVD cover?)

Post by rodis »

LittleAriel.com said this may be the DVD cover of the platinum edition of "The Little Mermaid".

I really hope it's not, because the characters - accept for Flounder maybe - look, well, ugly. Ariel in particular looks chubby and everything just seems wrong.

But... we know we usually get the covers only a few months before the release AND it doesn't even have any mention of a Special or Platinum edition. I hope it's not the cover. Just wanted to share.

P.S. I don't thing they could ever top the 1990 VHS cover of Mermaid, it's the best cover I've ever seen.

Look at this Ebay "The Little Mermaid" Platinum EDdition bid... That is sad. People really fell for it. :(

Not liking that cover too much.

Now I know I'm new here and don't know all of you. But I am sort of picky(for lack of a better word) when it comes to covers. I like them all to match up. So I found a site http://www.cdcoverart.com that has a bunch of custom cover for just about any DVD. I dound a bunch of Disney ones that all match, they all have the Orginal movie poster as the front. they are all numbered SW is #1 and so on. They print out excellent, I use a color laser.

If my pic is too big for this site. I'm sorry.

Little Mermaid DVD Cover Art

Post by Disney Guru »

This is a grand cover art. But I like the Limited Edition DVD Cover Art a lot better. For those who have forgotten what it looked like here is a pic!

This is a great movie. But that new cover art that you found on that website is pure garbage. The limited edition would do well. All they would have to do is delete limited edition and put on PLATINUM EDITION!

Are you serious? You really liked the 1999 DVD cover?

The colors look kind of cheap, I don't know, too bright.

And I'm relieved to know that the cover I posted is not the Platinum one :D

Well, based on the Lion King and the Beauty and the Beast colour "restorations" you can look forward to the colours in the movie being as bright!

Yeah, it is definitely a book cover. I think the "Ladybird" in the corner is actually a publisher, not the person who made the image.

I think it is a little early for LM cover art to surface at any rate. It is at least a year away (with Bambi being confirmed as the next one).

To be honest, I am more concerned with the content of the disc. It is my favourite of all the Platinums released so far, and I hope they don't mess with it too much, and present a good DVD. I am lucky to have the original release, so I will always have the theatrical cut (the proper one!).

At any rate, so long as they don't put Ariel in lingerie and smoking a cigar on the cover, I'd be pretty happy....

I wouldn't mind if they brightened the colours as long as they do some alterations a la "Beauty" and "Lion King". I think the film should look as good as possible if it comes on DVD.

Hey, now that I think about it she IS a redhead...

Although she is only 16. I don't think it is legal to do that.

They should change the story so that she is over 18.

Actually, it would be a good excuse to change the cover, AND the story, seeing as they will modify the film anyways.

EXEC 1: Gentlemen, I propose that we use this lingerie shot of Ariel for the Platinum Edition.

EXEC 2: We can't do that. This is a family market. We'd have to change the film.

EXEC 3: Well, we ARE inserting brand new footage, and unreleased songs to the film. Why not screw with it some more?

EXEC 1: Ok, so we can legitimately use the lingerie cover if we make the film a soft core porno?

EXEC 2: But we are a family market!

EXEC 3: So we'd have to add more games then?

EXEC 1: Excellent! It's settled. The Little Mermaid: Platinum and Lace Edition. If we are changing the film, let's start a whole new line as well...

The 1999 version is GREAT! That picture that is up there now can't be the real thing. It's too plain and looks like trash. Disney will do something better then the 1999 version!

Loomis, again, that was funny. :)

No way is this the cover. Come on people, the DVD hasn't even been announced yet and is at the very least a year and a half away. Furthermore, it looks nothing like any other platinum releases. If we don't have Bambi yet, we definitely don't have TLM. There are a billion covers for every movie on the web, whether they were from posters, books, CDs, or custom art made by websites or fans.

I think the best TLM artwork I've seen is the poster from when the movie was released, with the castle and all the characters on it. But I hope we get something new and refreshing for the PE cover, and it MUST feature Ursula (no reason to assume it won't. Only BATB hasn't featured a villain).
But the castle poster should be included on/in the DVD somewhere, b/c it is awesome! :D

I'm 100% positive it'll feature Ursula. I believe BATB did not because Gaston wasn't an 'official' (not the right word hmm) villain. He was added to enhance the story and as with every Disney film, it has to have a villain. Ursula on the other hand, was a big part of the story from the first place.

I totally agree, I was so happy I got the dvd back in 1999. So I will always be able to watch the theatrical version. Just in case they really mess up on it for the platinum edition. But at least the platinum edition will have extras. :)

Yeah, I agree with you as to why Gaston wasn't featured on the cover. You could argue all day long about who is the real villain of BATB (believe me, I've done it). Hmm, maybe I'll start a thread for that here :P

The 1989 edition was pornographic!
