ehhh Not sure about Wreck it Ralph
Just 2 years ago, we had a fairy tale brought to 3-D and was a huge success for Disney. This film, from what I saw in the teaser, to me is a step back to films like Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons. But, I'll just have to wait until the film comes out. Disney has made different kinda off-beat films that became classics like 101 Dalmatians and Lilo & Stitch. Frozen sounds more promising though.

Well I don't know about you, but I think Disney has done everything they can with fairy tales. If they can pull a movie like this off, as unconventional as it looks for the Mouse House, I'm game.
But I do see why you and other Disney believers can seem skeptical about Wreck-It Ralph. I find it funny that Pixar is making more of a "typical" Disney movie while Disney is working on something that could just as easily fit in Dreamworks or Sony or some other company. I'd be a little more alarmed if I didn't love the era of video games the film was reaching for and thought that the trailer was appealing.

101 Dalmatians wasn't off-beat or even that different. It was a more current setting with talking animals. It wasn't off-beat for Disney at all.toplaycool22 wrote:Disney has made different kinda off-beat films that became classics like 101 Dalmatians and Lilo & Stitch.

No he only hated the style, which was "off-beat" (not really off-beat just different and kinda less quality) because it had to be, he didn't choose it on purpose. He apparently also hated Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland it doesn't mean they were off-beat from Disney (though is admittedly off-beat in general, lol, but it fit with Disney adaptations of fantasy and classic literature).SWillie! wrote:Yes it was too! So "offbeat" that Disney himself hated it at first!

Where do you get your information from? Dumbo was Walt's favourite film out of all the Disney features (well, maybe besides Bambi).Disney Duster wrote:He apparently also hated Dumbo
I haven't seen Wreck-It Ralph yet, and I doubt I will at the cinema. I like John C Reilly, but I don't find the humour or visuals appealing, and I find most video games as interesting as 12th Century Chinese politics.

No he's right. Walt originally hated the fuck out of dumbo because He was pissed over the fact that dumbo, a small experimental production he didn't really put much attention and effort into, got bigger money making income than the previous movies where he did put so much attention, love, and dedication into (Pinocchio, fantasia, Bambi) yet didn't get the returns he was hoping for.Dr Frankenollie wrote:

later on in the years did he start to mellow out on accepting Dumbo a bit but before that? He was pissed over that.

Y'no, Walt may have said this during an introduction for the movie on Disneyland, but I don't believe that's necessarily true. He apparently said something similar for Bambi and So Dear to My Heart, so it might be hard to select what might be Walt's personal favorite.Dr Frankenollie wrote:Where do you get your information from? I'm also not sure if Walt actually did hate Dumbo, though. He probably did resent how the one film he wasn't involved with during the studio's first golden age made more than the others during that period, Snow White aside. But I don't know Walt, so I could be way off.

I feel like Walt said so many of his films were his favorite at some point, that I don't think we'll ever know which he really loved most. I'm sure it would be like choosing between your children for him, in some cases.
I actually agree with you completely. Although it would be natural for me to prefer a fairy tale over a film like WIR, I just don't like Tangled, and actually liked most of WIR better. While I would say I like Rapunzel better than any character from WIR, but I only have a mellow liking Maximus, and I dislike Gothel and Flynn; with WIR, I really like Vanellope and don't dislike any of the other characters.AlasmineLover:) wrote:Personally, I think Wreck-It Ralph was amazing. Actually, and I'm preparing for verbal disagreement here, I liked it more than Tangled. The jokes were at times bad and childish, but Wreck-It Ralph packed a lot of heart.
