“Return To Treasure Island” mini-series

Post by Guitarman »

Does anybody here remember the “Return To Treasure Island” mini-series? It aired on the Disney Channel back in the mid 80’s and early to mid 90’s. The music, the story, the acting (Brian Blessed will always be the definitive Long John Silver, and Ken Colley will always be the best Ben Gunn) were all top-notch. I’ve always thought that it was the best TV mini-series that I’d ever seen, and was curious as to whether or not the Disney Company still owned the rights to it. I know the series was released on DVD in the UK a couple of years ago, but it didn’t have the Disney name on it, since it was created by a British company, and Disney just had the American broadcast rights to it. Disney did release the series on video back in the 80’s, but after occasionally repeating it throughout the 90’s, it seems to have disappeared entirely. I do wonder, if it were ever to receive an American release, if it would be through Disney, or some other company.

Anyway, is there anybody else here who remembers this great mini-series?

I remember it, but not well (plotwise). I can remember the look of John Silver and what a big to-do the Disney Channel made of it, that's all. I have always been a huge fan of Disney's original, so I very much would like to see this again.

This was a great series!
If you have a dvd player that can play UK dvds (not sure of the region number, 2 perhaps?) it can still be ordered from Amazon.
Perhaps it will eventually be available for streaming on Amazon like the Edison Twins series.

Yes, we've talked about it over at Open Vault Disney.
