R.I.P.: Davey Jones of The Monkees

Davy Jones, former lead singer of sixties pop group The Monkees died today at the age of 66. Jones suffered a major heart attack at his home in Florida.

The Monkees were supposed to be the answer to the Beatles, with four kids taken off the street and made stars of a television show.

The Monkees lasted for 58 Episodes, plus several television specials. They were made up of Mike Nesmith, Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork (Torkelson) and Jones. Their television show was on NBC in 1967 and 1968.

The Monkees were known for their slapstick-style comedy and their music. They had hits like "Daydream Believer", "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm A Believer".
