The Three Stooges (2012)
Hadn't heard anything about this yet, but just caught the trailer . . .

And your thoughts on it?
Okay, I'll go first and risk getting run out of town on a rail, but it looks entertaining to me. I mean, I'm going into the Stooges expecting something stupid, even with the original, so this works for me, even if I am a Shemp man.
Oh, and, wow, Sister Bernice...

I don't like the Jersey Shore people being in it but I did laugh at the iPhone gag. I will wait and see how it turns out even if I feel sort of like doing a Stooge movie without at least two of the six from the days of yore is sort of like doing a live action Abbot & Costello, Marx Brothers or even Jack Benny Show movie now or something.

I don't care for the Jersey Shore people being onscreen anywhere. I think that's totally absurd. However, I can deal with it if it's seeing them get poked in the eyes by Moe Howard.
What gets me about this is they do a great job imitating the originals, and really, to me the Stooges are iconic characters enough now that I can accept them like this, played by other actors. Or, maybe I just feel that way because I think they're doing a great job here.

Yeah- I'm also extremely impressed with the actors they chose. Especially Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe. My problem is that the gags look like boring cliches. Oh, and, that singing lobster-down-the-pants joke seems to have been done to Sean Hayes solely because he's known for being able to hit really high notes. Other than that, I'm trying to keep an open mind. But I am not a fan of The Farrelly Brothers. Although, a lot of people are. Some even think they're geniuses.

I honestly did not recognize who was playing Larry until I looked him up AFTER seeing the trailer. So, that didn't ruin the high note gag for me, and I kinda liked it as believable look at the kind of gag the Stooges would do nowadays. I think that's what the humor in this movie is aimed at more than anything, besides the impressions themselves. It looks like they're doing the Brady Bunch thing of seeing the Stooges in a modern setting as the main source of the humor. Okay, I don't mean in exactly the same way as the Brady Bunch, where in their minds it was like they were still in the 70's, but rather the Stooges personalities in a modern setting. I suppose I'm stating something obvious here, but my point is I don't think the main source of the humor here is meant to be original slapstick (though I guess there COULD be a lot of young people in the audience who have never seen much of the real Stooges). Hopefully it's not just a lot of pop culture references either, but I'm hoping they took the one (Snooky) and stuck it in the trailer, because they always pick the worst stuff for the trailer because the masses seem to like it best...
Anyways, as for the Farrelly Bros, I have liked some of their stuff a lot, and some didn't look interesting enough for me to want to see it. Dumb and Dumber is my favorite (haven't watched it in forever). I think Shallow Hal and Me, Myself and Irene had a lot of funny stuff and a lot of flawed or just plain bad writing/plot stuff at the same time. I tried to watch Kingpin several times since it was from the "Dumb and Dumber creators", but I never found the bits I saw very entertaining. I liked Osmosis Jones pretty well. Oh, and I like The Ringer possibly as much as I like Dumb and Dumber. Their other stuff either didn't appeal to me or not enough for me to make sure I watched at some point.
So, basically, their films can go any direction with me, but when I think I will like them a lot, I usually do, so I have a good feeling about this one. But, I'm also not the type who automatically hates a movie like this because of what it is. Reading around at people's comments, not that this is a major news flash, but it seems A LOT of people hated this movie before the trailer came around. It might as well be a CGI/live-action Snagglepuss movie.

ABC did a television movie about the rise and fall of the "Three Stooges" several years ago, and I really liked it. Let's hope that the Farrelly Bros. can keep this train on the tracks and give us some true facts into the lives of one of the funniest comedy teams of the golden era of Hollywood.
The choice of actors to play the roles is spot on, and the trailer does make it look pretty funny, but I hope that they don't take too many liberties with the lives of Moe and Curly Howard and Larry Fine.
Larry Fine was a very close friend of mine and I was privileged to be a pallbearer at his funeral. I will be very ticked off if they don't tell the whole story about the 'boys'.
If this is just another "Three Stooges" movie then it may be in trouble.

I saw the trailer and am kind of puzzled as to what the story is...
I'm only vaguely familiar with The Three Stooges. I mean, I know their schtick but haven't seen much of the originals that I can recall. But this looks painfully unfunny. It's almost like a film from the 90s was on the shelf collecting dust and is suddenly released.
Looks pretty bad to me when I really think about it.

The Iphone gag was a wonderful touch of how the Stooges would possibly reacted to how Time has changed since their heydays,, found the pool gag unexpected and made wonder "why?" . But hopefuly this film does some respectful homage to the classic Stooges, like everybody else, "why are the Jersey Shore in this?" it seems unecessary to have them in the film, but Snooki get'tin poked in the eye was fricken awesome haha

For all we know, the Snooky (no idea if I'm spelling that right, I've never even watched the Jersey Shore; sad that I even know who that is without watching) bit might not even make it into the actual movie. As for toilet humor though, I don't know, that might actually be something the Stooges WOULD be doing these days. Let's be honest, slapstick is not that high above toilet humor.
For those who still think this is a biopic, well, the trailer clearly shows it is not. After all, the ABC biopic was well done. We really don't need another. Hopefully though, it will get a rerelease thanks to this movie. I'd like to own it myself.
I agree that the Razzies are going to have a field day with this one, even if it would turn out to be excellent. Few people would admit it, I think. Though, I'm not saying it looks like it will be more than an entertaining, mindless comedy, but that can be just what the doctor ordered at times. I just hope it is not the next Little Rascals, but it looks MUCH better than that one to me. The Brady Bunch movies were great, yet everyone still scoffs when a movie based on a TV series comes out. And if a decent live-action cartoon is made, people still say it is garbage, often without even seeing it. Despite movies like The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 2, there are still those who think sequels are automatically sacrilege. This movie could be awful, it could be great, and I don't think this trailer guarantees either, yet the negative comments it gets on YouTube, sheesh. It's a little ridiculous. People decided to hate this movie already, and they'll probably stick to their guns.
Then again, the Smurfs was a huge hit, so maybe internet comments mean nothing.
Anyways, as for the pool gag, I am not sure what bothers you about it (I rather enjoyed it, ha), but I also noticed that they used some clever editing there, and the Stooges' first reactions to the nun in the bikini aren't actually from that scene. Different background; I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed. Anyways, for all we know, the character isn't a real nun, and that's the gag. Who knows, but I liked it, ha, and I could imagine something like that in a classic Stooges short (showing less skin, of course).

I thought the same thing. It's very reminiscent of The Beverly Hillbillies and The Little Rascals movies (which, I must admit, I do have a small soft spot for, especially the former). I can't say I'm particularly familiar with the Stooges but it'll be interesting to see how this movie does at the box office. Maybe a Father's Day release would be beneficial?PatrickvD wrote:But this looks painfully unfunny. It's almost like a film from the 90s was on the shelf collecting dust and is suddenly released.

This movie scares the crap out of me. Now that I have watched the trailer a couple more times, it looks like it's going to be pure garbage, as far as a Three Stooges movie goes. These guys were known for their 'shorts' and even the few movies that were made after the death of Curley, left a lot to be desired.
I just can't get the image of Michael Chiklis' portrayal of Curley Joe in the ABC television movie about The Stooges.
Now a theatrical film of that caliber I could get behind really fast. But trying to revive the franchise and make a PG-13 comedy for the modern day, is way off base as far as I am concerned. I won't go see it!!!!!
