Are you ready for Black Friday 2011?
Are you guys excited? What are you're plans?
I am really excited for Black Friday this year. Especially since my brother and I are on graveyard vampire schedules so being awake from 12 am - 7 am is not a problem at all. We'll probably check Toys R Us, Target & Best Buy if we can even get in. I'm thinking I can get my coupon and buy Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas combo pack since Friday is payday for me. I'll also check to see if any of those power ranger megazords are on sale since I collect them as of one week ago lol.
Oh and for you guys who do go to Best Buy, certain stores will be screening Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2 and I think they give refreshments: link for more info http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Misc/Black+ ... 160&loc=06

Yeah Black Friday is their opportunity to get rid of junk mostly but sometimes you find good stuff. Last year was a disappointment since I had barely started collecting disney movies and nothing was on sales (as usual). I was surprised to see just a rack of DVDs in the front at Target of just lame stuff although they had some cheap season sets of various shows.
This will only be my second black friday outting so I guess that's where the excitement comes from. Plus I'd rather get B&tB: EC and be nosy than watch boring Paid Programing all night hah

I'm not really looking for disney DVDs now other than B&tB II. I was searching for them last year since I had just started collecting in October. That is a pretty good deal though. I could always use $10 off for something.
I remember that came in handy when we got $50+ off at the vans store. Too bad they're too cheap to go to $15 or $20
Yeah any word what time Target or Toys will be open on BF?

I have lost some interest in Black Friday in recent years, though I loved it for a while. But, where's all the free stuff these days? I often still go out somewhere, but I often come back by dawn with little more than the free JCPenny Disney snowglobe, ha.
However, having amassed a pretty big blu-ray collection and still watching it all on a standard, old, not even flat screen and pretty small TV, I am very tempted by Best Buy's 200 dollar, Sharp, 1080p, 42 inch HDTV. I wish they had one on display so I could see how it looks. I am wanting, seriously, to go there early and make sure I can get one to take back with me to my sister's place and enjoy my blu-rays fully for once (though, I assume I need a sound bar and an HDMI cord too? What are those cords for again?). Only thing is, I wonder how big the line will be by the time I get there after Thanksgiving dinner, ha, even if we have it in the afternoon, as we used to before my sister and mom started cooking most of it. There is a min. of 10 of those TVs per store, and some people have already been on the news as being camped out at Best Buy to get one. I don't think they'll start THAT early around here, but they might be there pretty early on Thanksgiving day. *sigh* I wouldn't mind nabbing Pulp Fiction and Dodgeball on blu there too. And I think Sucker Punch is pretty cheap as well. Haven't heard many good things, but I'll buy that just for the Baby Doll footage.

I've worked retail on Black Friday before as a cashier. I'm not at all attracted to crowds . . . and being trapped behind a register of aggressive, complaining, demanding, non-stop customers from hell kinda ruined it for me.
I remember watching people running through the store the moment the door was unlocked, and having people in my line before we even had all the lights on. I actually overhead one kid saying, "Run momma, run!" as they whizzed off to electronics to hunt for the CD players the store had stealthily hidden in women's clothes.
Tip? They'll often hide the sale items in the wrong part of the store just to keep you looking.

I must have been with a good crowd last year. No one pushed and no one shoved, it was extremely calm. It was like the store as opened at it's regular time. I bet the real drama is over at Best Buy though.
My suggestion is that you don't go alone (it's always more fun with a friend) and to bring running shoes to flee easily if fights do occur lol It would be interesting to see the suburban housewives get all primal over junk haha

On my Dad's first - and only - Black Friday attempt he stood outside Best Buy for hours in negative degree weather. When it opened he asked the attendants were the one thing he came for was located. They told him in the back of the store. He gets there and another attendant redirects him to the front of the store. And of course, the item was sold out when he eventually found the right place.Christopher_TCUIH wrote:I bet the real drama is over at Best Buy though.

The whole weekend after Thanksgiving is a time I avoid like the plague on the American public that it is.
There is nothing special that can't be found in the weeks closer to Christmas, so we just spend this particular weekend as a family at home, watching movies and doing family things. I don't think we even get in the car for anything except for Church on Sunday morning.
Black Friday can get along quite well without our family. It's amazing how many rude people there are in this world, and they all come out on that particular Friday.
No thanks, I'll stay at home with the family. Happy Holidays to those of you crazy enough to go out on this weekend.

Okay, this sucks. I had a nice wish list of stuff I wanted at Best Buy, but I went over after dinner and was shocked to see that there was a line of tents around the store. Wonder how long those people have been there! I figured that was just one nut who got on CNN last Monday. I just headed home after that.
Today has been kind of a bust for me, with missing the parade, this Black Friday experience, and then I get an e-mail from the girl I love who left me to go back to her ex-boyfriend, and she is all chipper and wanting to hang out, saying she's got a lot to tell me and all. I kinda hate when she does that, because it gives me hope that she wants to get back together, but that is most likely not the case, ha.
On the bright side, the dinner came out great. I made the stuffing, even though I don't eat stuffing (because I don't eat onions or peppers.... or celery, really). I hear it was great though.
It was also our first Thanksgiving without my dad, so that was hard.
So, who can fill me in on Cyber Monday? I mean, there's gotta be a trick to it, since otherwise, why would people bother with Black Friday? Are the deals not as good? Do they even do Cyber Monday anymore? How do you or how soon can you find out about the deals?

Here it is, not even 8 o'clock, and just finished having dessert, and watching a movie with my grandson. Now it's the 49ers/Baltimore Ravens game on NFL network, and then off to bed.
I have outgrown all the chaos and rudeness that comes with Black Friday and there isn't anything I really need that any of the stores are offering. So I will just get a good night's sleep and be glad that I am not one of those 'idiots' who camp out and think they are getting a great deal on something they could get on line or on 'Cyber' Monday.

I went out last night to our local walmart, I imagine that it looked very much like the end of the world might look like only less violent. I got a bunch of cheap pre-schooler board games, I have a 3 year old and a bunch of nieces and nephews so somebody is gonna get a game.
I got the Ice Age Holiday Special Bluray (for free!!) and Quantum of Solace, and Benjamin Button ($5 each) I haven't seen those 2 yet but everyone says they're good, so here's hoping!
I went to Best Buy and got Green Lantern for $10. Haven't seen that either but a guy I work with liked it and I love superhero movies so I'm sure I'll at least be entertained.
At TRU I got 2 Hex Bug sets and one of these baby jump up and down while making sounds doll. I found it funny only the African American versions were left but our little girl has no problem with that whatsoever. All her dolls are the same to her. I think that small children don't 'see' race, if only adults could think the same way, huh?
Well, my wife is in the shower now, when she gets out, I'll cash my check my check and maybe pick up some other stuff, if there is anything left, lol.
