Epic Mickey 2

Post by Sotiris »

According to an anonymous Dtoid reader, Epic Mickey 2 is currently being gauged by Disney via online marketing. There are a lot of specifics here, which is always nice. That doesn't mean that the game is definitely going to happen, but it sure looks like the development of Epic Mickey 2 has gone well beyond the "purely theoretical" stages. There are several potential box arts here, as well as some of the titles being considered for the game (including Epic Mickey 2: Return of the Mad Doctor, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, Epic Mickey 2: Mystery on Mean Street, and just Epic Mickey 2).

The game is reportedly planned for release on the Wii, the PS3, and the 360. Gameplay details include the option to play 2-player split screen with Mickey Mouse (back with his paint and thinner mechanics from the first game) or his older brother Oswald The Lucky Rabbit (who can "fly like a helicopter" and use electricity to "fight or friend" foes).

I don't care that it's not definite, it's progress at least and it shows they're considering it! :D :D :D

I'd be up for another Epic Mickey... although I'd rather have it be playable with more than just the Wii remote + Nunchuk... though I'm not sure how well it would work with the aiming.

Actually... I wouldn't mind using the Wii remote for aiming, but I HATE having to use waggle controls to attack...
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I'm set for a 2nd game, I quite enjoyed Epic Mickey even though I wish it was released to PSP *err* but it's all good. I like the cover of Mickey/Oswald's back and the one of Mickey/Oswald facing you in the "Epic" pose.

At least we're getting more Oswald in some format. I can't believe he hasn't been more introduced into the company in other ways.

I still need to buy the first Epic Mickey (it's only $18 on Amazon right now) because it looks pretty fun. I'm sure that a sequel to the first game would be just as much fun.

I totally agree with you here! Surely Disney will start to introduce the character to the parks now (Apparently merchandise and parades featuring Oswald designs are very popular in Disneyland Hong Kong!)

I find the character adorable and I also hope the games is released on different platforms....

With the news now in the open, perhaps in just an attempt to foil squatters, Disney has gone ahead and registered domain names which include DISNEYEPICMICKEY2.COM, DISNEYEPICMICKEY2.ORG and DISNEYEPICMICKEY2.NET.

According to an article on Stitch Kingdom that has now been removed (probably upon Disney's request), Epic Mickey 2 is to be released in the Fall of 2012 and it's likely to be multi-platform.

Wow, someone broke the rules posting that survey info! I used to be part of a Disney forum like that too, and they paid us in Amazon Gift Certificates! It was sweet! But just as they invited you by surprise and supposedly at random, they removed you just as suddenly. Even though I was the one Disney Fan voice in that forum, and I never broke the rules like this. Meanwhile, one guy who hated everything Disney ever made except Snow White was kept on the team. :x Without me, it was mostly that guy and soccer moms, so here's hoping we DO see an Epic Mickey 2.

Anyways, I loved the first, but I never got to finish it (yet) since I got caught up with my parents' illnesses and job-hunting. Hopefully, after I get back to Austin and find a job and apartment, and buy a TV...

As for the covers, I hate the second and 4th. The 1st and 3rd work great for me. Probably prefer the 3rd though. I can appreciate the way the others look like the first, but I don't like the views of the characters. Ideally, I think they should use the background from the 4th one (including the ink trail) but the characters in the 1st. Maybe I would jump on the second one if they were facing the front. I like the "2" ink swirl. They basically need to take the best elements from these and combine them into a new picture.

Oh, also, I wish they would bring back Oswald in some other media as well. A TV show would probably be best, or new theatrical shorts...

I actually feel the second and fourth ones are the most like the original game's cover. But it would be nice if they re-designed it.

I agree, but I just don't like the character views on those. That's why I think the best thing would be to, say, use the background of the fourth but the characters from the first, or use the second but have the characters facing this way. Mainly, I don't like the way Oswald is depicted in the fourth, and I just don't like the way they are turned away from us in the second.

And, truth is, I never liked the original cover, ha.

I still have yet to play the first one. Have it laying around. I'll get to that after Skyward Sword.

Anyway, I hope some of this great work will translate into a feature film. That would be great.
