I recently read on the forum about the quality of The Rescuers DVD, particularly the Walt Disney Pictures logo at the start of the film (Blue background, white stripey castle). Whilst I agree that the quality is terrible, I've not read anyone mention that it's not the original title logo.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but when you hear the thunder crack and the birds at the very start of the film, didn't the original titles say "Distributed By Buena Vista Distribution Co., Inc" similar to the opening of The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh, and then zoom onto the boat in Devil's Bayou?
I've checked my old VHS copy of it and it has the Buena Vista titles.
Anyone else noticed? Anyone care?

The Buena Vista logo was moved to the end of the film. I think it's annoying that they had to alter the opening. The thunder sound just doesn't fit the castle logo at all. Maybe they thought it would be cool?
I think they should have added the castle logo in the beginning silent or with the music and then start with the Buena Vista logo and the thunder sound.

The Rescuers was re-released twice, once in 1983 and once in 1989. With the 1989 re-release, they altered the opening. I believe all classics that were released or re-released after 1985 have the blue catle opening
Imo the thunder really fits the opening. I believe Tarzan has thunder too with the opening castle. I dont mind at all.

I remember reading something about the RKO opening... I think you can still see it on the DVD. I wish they'd leave the intros as they were, but I don't mind AS much if it was changed for a theatrical re-release back in the day. That's better than Eisner & Co. trying to change things left & right out of their home video-churning machine.
