There is no indication at the moment Disney is planning to abandon the line. We have a new Wave in less than 3 months and hopefully a 4th in December.Lars Vermundsberget wrote:If Disney doesn't abandon the Treasures line as we know it, I guess it's quite obvious that there'll be a Silly Symphonies volume 2 eventually. The first set covered about half of the 75 shorts, so the rest would be perfect for a second set.
I feel fairly confident, that even if the Treasure line is terminated, they will all surface on DVD eventually, somewhere...

I'm not a big Silly Symphonies fan, but they are so entertaining and fun to watch in my spare time. While they were historically significant, I'm not a big Silly Symphonies fan. I enjoy the Mickey, Donald, & Goofy shorts much more, so I'm not really anxious to get a second SS volume. But I agree that it should come out in the near future.

I think I like the diversity of the SS shorts. The Mickey ones - particularly the earlier Mickey ones - were quite repetetive, but important nonetheless. However, the SS ones I think are both historically important and fun.MickeyMousePal wrote:Jack Wrote:

But if I had to choose my favourites, it would easily be Goofy - and most of them are out on DVD (with the exception of two of the later ones, possibly because they had no title card).

There are two that you are unlikely to get on DVD -- Mother Goose Goes Hollywood and Broken Toys. Too many African American stereotypes on these two...quasi72 wrote:Pleeeeeease.... I want all those cartoons. All of them!

I wonder - between Song of the South, Mickey's Mellerdrammer (being discussed in another thread) and those two you mentioned, is there anything Disney CAN release from that era?The Lizard King wrote:There are two that you are unlikely to get on DVD -- Mother Goose Goes Hollywood and Broken Toys. Actually, does anyone have a list of Disney toons/material that are under a self imposed "ban" as of this moment?

Sort of off-topic, but I got the Looney Tunes: The Ultimate Visual Guide the other week, and I can't help noticing that there's no entry for Inki, despite the Minah Bird having a picture and entry.
I don't think this bodes well for Inki appearing in any future Looney Tunes DVD sets - a shame as I like the Minah Bird, who is often his "partner" in his cartoons.

I hope so too.
If Disney was to sef-censor its own racial portraits, probably we would never be released Dumbo again. Don't forget about the HAPPY HEARTED ROUSTABOUTS song... To me, very strong. Both visually and musically (the lyrics...).
So to me this self protection and political correctness in Disney doesn't make much sense. I hope to see all these cartoons released, even w/ a Leonard Maltin commentary at first to prompt the audience in the understanding of the film, as in other cases in the D. Treasures series.

Well, there's a difference between a brief few second sequence (as in most of the released Treasures to date) and a cartoon which virtually "stars" characters of a racial stereotype all the way though.Lars Vermundsberget wrote:I don't think they're going to ban every old cartoon short with "African American" stereotypes in them from the Treasures sets. Aren't there quite a few of those titles out already?
Only time will tell.
