Pan (2015)

Post by disneyboy20022 »

*** Note that I am not sure what company this is tied to if the idea has been bought I don't know of it at least in this article...****

The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Channing Tatum, screenwriter Billy Ray and producer Joe Roth have teamed up on the Peter Pan idea, which we imagine will tell a slightly more action-orientated origin story for Peter Pan, one that probably won’t include the three kids and that whole flying-from-the-bedroom thing. This’ll be a prequel, and we imagine it’ll show us how Pan and Captain Hook came to be mortal enemies.
It’s still early and no one has picked it up yet, so we don’t have too many details. Does Channing Tatum want to play Peter Pan? We don’t know, but I’ll give you my first casting suggestion: Daniel Day-Lewis as Captain Hook. Bam!
Do you think a Peter Pan origin story will work?

God, I hope Charming Tater doesn't play Peter Pan. That'd be awful, awful casting.

I agree it'd be some really strange casting. He seems like he'll do any movie for enough money, though. Quite the eclectic resume. Whereas I think he's really attractive, I'd like him to stay away from a Peter role. :P I don't really like the sound of this to begin with.

Peter Pan's worldwide copyright status expired after December 31, 2007 (for the original novel and NOT the play). It's been in the public domain for three years -- so any studio can make their own movie, TV show or the like. The play and stage adaptations remains under copyright protection until 2017 in Europe (and 2023 for the U.S.).

I think with the prequel idea, this movie'll probably be more like "Peter and th Starcatchers." Well, it was a prequel to the original Peter Pan, so :P .

I'm glad this'll be a prequel, because my first reaction was, "Wasn't there a live-action Peter Pan not long ago that was pretty good (barring Jeremy Sumpter as Peter)? Why make yet another?"

And Channing Tatum... That would be so horrible.

Hmmm I don't know, there have been too many Peter Pan movies recently although I wouldn't mind seeing Tim Burton take it on like he did with Alice.

De acuerdo. Especially if it IS Peter and the Starcatchers, which is a colossally inaccurate joke of a prequel to Peter Pan. I read it after it first came out and hated it so much I wrote a book report for school, tearing it apart. Then I felt a little better. But I seriously doubt Channing Tatum would play Peter Pan himself, because this movie would be a prequel. That just wouldn't make sense, unless a time machine were involved.

The original Peter Pan already has a canon prequel, Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens. I haven't read it yet, but from what I understand, it's not movie material. Still, I think it's disrespectful to fabricate a backstory (no doubt heavy on action and pirates ) when it already has its own, simpler, backstory. just in case you can't tell, I'm a Peter Pan crusader

I don't believe there's a Hollywood exec dumb enough to have one of the beefiest actors currently in Hollywood to play a character who is supposed to be a boy forever. So I think we're safe.

Peter Pan hasn't really worked on film, let's just hope this goes well.

WB's "Pan" movie

Post by azul017 »

Originally scheduled for summer 2015, Warner Brothers has elected to release their revisionist "Peter Pan" film, Pan, in 2D, 3D and IMAX theaters on October 9, 2015.

The synopsis is as follows: "Set during WWII, it follows an orphan who is kidnapped by pirates and brought to Neverland, where he discovers he’s destined to save the land from the pirate Blackbeard." Newcomer Levi Miller is playing Peter, Hugh Jackman is Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund is Hook, and Rooney Mara is Tiger Lily. Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) directs from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs.

So Neverland was originally run by real pirate Blackbeard, Captain Hook's name never came from a hook for a hand, and Peter Pan believes he could see his mother in "another" world, but then says he doesn't "believe in bedtime stories."

Yea, all that isn't really stupid.

This has a Black List script and is a Joe Wright film. I'm sure it won't disappoint.

I saw this today. It was ok. I felt emotion in the end with what Peter finally got to see. But the rest really wasn't that great.

I still think it was stupid to have as real person, Black Beard, be the villain. And if it was just a pirate who happened to share his name, that's still stupid. It was also still stupid for Captain Hook to have the last name Hook before he got his hook. And we never even get to see him get his hook. I was really looking forward to seeing how him being friends with Peter led to him being his enemy. Did the original play and book say they used to be friends?

But it was entertaining at least.
