This movie looks like it's totally gonna rock! I am so excited for it. Chris Hemsworth is the perfect Thor, and with Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins and those special effects, I think this will be a very entertaining movie.

I am also looking forward to Captain America, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, X-Men: First Class and The Wolverine, but not as much as I am anticipating Thor^^ I hope it does really well at the boxoffice so that we get a sequel!:D

And I like how the upcoming Marvel-films in a way is a part of Disney now.

As far as I know, this is still being released by Paramount, isn't it? It even shows their studio logo in the trailer, without a hint of Disney.

Yes, it is. But I'm sure Disney wants it to do well! Thor section at the Disney Store, anyone? Thor at the parks? Thor animated series on Disney XD? :excellent:

Yes, distributed by Paramount. Captain America and Thor will be the last ones from that deal. After that, Disney gets full distribution rights for all Marvel films (except Spider-Man, Fantastic 4, X-Men, Daredevil, and possibly Blade - not sure if the rights from WB are expired or not).

But anyway, Marvel (so through parent company Disney) fully funds the film. Disney gets something like 90% of all the earnings the film makes, while Paramount gets the remaining few percent for distribution fees. It's basically Disney's film, only distributed by Paramount due to an already existing distribution deal (before Disney bought Marvel).

Same thing with Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Iron Man 2.

Okay, granted Disney bought Marvel back in 2009, but it doesn't make sense that Disney isn't distributing this movie or Captain America themselves. :?

It's a brand thing. Can you really imagine the Castle logo on something like this?

Touchstone, maybe.

Well, Disney DID put their castle logo on Dead Man's Chest, At World's End and Prince of Persia, which are to name a few of Disney's only few movies (until On Stranger Tides) to be something dark, gritty and action-packed, lacking musical numbers, sunshine and lollipops, all that jazz.

It was a pre-existing condition Paramount and Marvel had -- it wasn't as solid as the ones Sony and Fox had. Back in February 2010, IESB reported that Disney would try and use a contract loophole to gain the distribution rights for the remaining four films (Thor, Captain America, The Avengers and Iron Man 3). Another scenario IESB spilled was that Disney would pay Paramount the amount it makes in distribution fees ($200 million to $250 million) to get the rights back.

The latter is what Disney and Paramount agreed -- The Avengers and Iron Man 3 will be released by Disney, but The Avengers will be licensed to Paramount's Epix movie channel (rather than the Starz/Encore networks). Paramount gets a minimum of $115M, possibly more if the films perform better than expected. Paramount still has distribution rights to Thor and Captain America.

At least the good thing about Paramount's distribution deal is that the DVD releases don't have the lame FastPlay and the front cover isn't marred with the DMR logo.

You haven't heard?

There is a whole controversy over it.

Basically they cast a black actor to play Heimdall, who from Norse mythology is known as "the Whitest God".

All swashbuckelrs, which is a bit of a dying genre in favor of guns a'blazers and the occassional kick between the legs with typical heavy metal music and slow-mo shots incorporated into the bg of the advertising. Nothing to really distinguish Thor based on the advertising from billions of other movies released within the last decade.
