Who celebrates Festivus?

Post by Barbossa »

On Dec 23, I am! 8)

"Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way. But out of that a new holiday was born:
a Festivus for the rest of us!"

Here's a tip on how to make a Festivus pole:

Dont' forget, you can't use the pole while you're doing the Feats of Strength. Yeah I know it's tempting, but it's a no-no.

Don't forget to distribute your Human Fund cards...

The first and only time I celebrated Festivus was December 2002. I was a senior in high school, and part of "Monthly Rewind", the school's cable-access show. Our producer was a fellow senior (you become producer if you took "Monthly Rewind" in junior year and joined again as a senior, and the teacher preferred you over someone else who also came back), and he had rather lofty visions for how he'd run the show. He was like, 100% serious business, and thus very uptight when it came to the segments we produced. He was always more critical of them rather than offering constructive suggestions. By the end of November, a bunch of us got together to talk to our teacher about it, hoping he could have a talk with the producer, and it was decided instead that we'd have an open-forum talk in order air our grievances out loud to him. When the class started, our teacher said, "This is a Celebration Festivus," and one by one, each of us spoke aloud to the producer about how he simply wasn't being a good producer and that we can strive for professionalism in our segments whilst still having fun with them. It eventually turned out for the better, he became a better producer after that Festivus.

We didn't have Feats of Strength or a Festivus Pole, but we did have Millie, the Monthly Rewind Mascot who was really this big stuffed animal dog.

I'm making a Festivus Pole for work. Got a ten-foot PVC pipe for indoor vacuums at Home Depot and cut it in half. Gonna wrap it in aluminum foil. I was looking at galvanized fence poles, but they were about $15 each. The PVC only cost me $6, and I get two poles out of it.

I got to remember to store it in the crawl space after the holidays are over.

Gonna get to work on some Human Fund cards I'll be handing out at work also. :D

Good informational video about the Feats of Strength:
