The Sword and the Rose coming to DVD!
I just received my Disney Movie Club mailer packet. The big surprise was that in addition to "Almost Angels" being released exclusively tomorrow (12/14), "The Sword and the Rose" is also being released!
I'm very glad to get this one to add to "The Story of Robin Hood" and "Rob Roy." Those three always seemed to fit together as part of the earlier English swashbuckler Disney live-action films.
Glad to see that the 14-month drought is ending at the DMC! When I was surveyed several months back, I was very vociferous about the lack of exclusive titles. I followed up with an email (never heard back) but maybe a little pressure from us all worked!
Now to reinforce with some positive praise and let's hope for more in 2011, not to mention some of the Disney TV episodes would be nice too!

Wow, that news just made my day! I have been waiting for a DVD release of The Sword and the Rose for so long!
Thank you, disneyrecordfan, for the news and for being such a persistent advocate for getting the DMC exclusives pipeline flowing again (kudos to you too, merlinjones, for being such a vocal champion for the DVD release of Disney's older live-action film and television catalogue).
The DMC Exclusives were the sole reason I joined the club in the first place and over the years I have bought The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men, Rob Roy: The Highland Rogue, Kidnapped, The Fighting Prince of Donegal, So Dear to My Heart, Tonka, Treasure of Matecumbe, and Big Red. I cannot wait to add The Sword and the Rose and Almost Angels to my collection as well as purchasing some of the earlier DMC exclusives that I haven't bought yet.
Thank you, Disney Company and the Disney Movie Club, for these two recent Exclusive releases and for giving us fans of the older live-action films and television shows hope that more of this wonderful material may yet see the light of day....
Please, please keep the pipeline of DMC Exclusives flowing in 2011!

I would encourage everyone to spread the news about these new DMC Exclusives everywhere they can, including other discussion boards they belong to (I've posted on dvdtalk and hometheaterforum already). There may be fans of either or both films or of older Disney live-action films in general that are dying for them to be released on DVD and they aren't aware of the recent news. Greater awareness may translate into greater sales which would, hopefully, incentivize the DMC to release more of it.
Spread the word!

Just watched The Sword and the Rose last night. It is full-screen and the picture quality is equivalent to the previous VHS release, but what a delightful gem of a film it is! Sure, they take liberties with historical accuracy, but the script, acting, costumes, scenery, etc. is truly top knotch. Definitely worth a blind buy for those who haven't seen it.
Now bring out The Prince and the Pauper, The Light in the Forest, and the older Disneyland anthology series I've mentioned in previous posts as DMC Exclusives in 2011 and I will be in a perfect state of bliss! LOL!
Thank you again, DMC, for releasing The Sword and the Rose!

Was that the same master as the laserdisc release?
I never owned the laserdisc of the film so I don't know.
