Dreamworks' "Me and My Shadow" animated feature
Sounds interesting. Here is hoping this goes more the "How to Train Your Dragon" route than a dumb "Megamind" type slapstick.

Cats Don't Dance and The Emperor's New Groove still had plenty of heart, which helped them both become something special.jpanimation wrote:Mark Dindal is directing it. If we go by his first 3 features, then this movie will indeed be built around slapstick.
Chicken Little, on the other hand...
"There are two wolves and they are always fighting. One is darkness and despair. The other is light and hope. Which wolf wins? Whichever one you feed." - Casey Newton, Tomorrowland

I actually liked Chicken Little for what it was. It wasn't a masterpiece by any means, but I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be.
However, I do have reservations about this project, because I don't exactly understand the point of the plot. On the other hand, I do find it interesting DreamWorks is coming back to traditional 2-D animation, because that's where they have previously done some of their best work.

The synopsis makes me think of this:
"I have gone through the most terrible affair that could possibly happen; only imagine, my shadow has gone mad; I suppose such a poor, shallow brain, could not bear much; he fancies that he has become a real man, and that I am his shadow."
— Hans Christian Andersen, "The Shadow"
Fun fact: A hedgehog in the Rankin/Bass film Jack Frost sings a song with the same title as this movie.

Source: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-v ... der-286141Josh Gad, Bill Hader and Kate Hudson have signed to star as the voice cast of Me & My Shadow, the animated fantasy from DreamWorks Animation. Mark Dindal, who helmed The Emperor's New Groove, was previously on board as director. Now, Alessandro Carloni, who served as head of story on How to Train Your Dragon, will make his directorial debut on the movie, which is being produced by Melissa Cobb (Kung Fu Panda 2).
Conceived in-house as an original film, Shadow centers on Stan, a shadow (Hader) who yearns for a more exciting life than being attached to a timid human named Stanley Grubb (Gad). When a crime in the shadow community puts both of their lives in danger, Stan is forced to take control of Stanley, thrusting both of them into an adventure featuring a shadowy villain, who intends to lead a rebellion to take over the human world. Hudson will voice Grubb’s potential love interest in the real world.
The movie will mix up CG and traditional animation (the shadow world will be hand-drawn while the human world will be CG), which the studio hopes will be pioneering and create an experience not seen before.
Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember are writing the screenplay based on an original draft from Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman. Jeff Hermann (Kung Fu Panda 2) is co-producing. The studio has set a November 13, 2013 release date for the movie.
I admit that at first I used to hate Chicken Little with a passion. But then after several viewings and discussions with Escapay about it, I came to not only accept it for what it is, but really enjoy it as well. The characters are really fun, the story does have some clever twists here and there and I like some of the humor. Not saying that this is perfect or that it should be praised. It does have some issues with pace, character development and overall script, but I have come to accept it for what it is rather than hating it with the passion of a million hells.UmbrellaFish wrote:I actually liked Chicken Little for what it was. Regarding this movie, technically the idea of fusing 2D and 3D animation has happened already with Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2, but combining the two within one story does sound really neat.

I've always felt like a black sheep around here for liking Chicken Little from the first time I saw it in the theater.pap64 wrote:I admit that at first I used to hate Chicken Little with a passion. I do think a lot of the issues it does have has to do with exec meddling, but I especially enjoy the character designs and animation, and I enjoy some of the humor as well.

It'll be great to see more hand drawn animation on the big screen too, even as part of a hybrid feature.

Huh, reminds me of thisStan, a shadow

Not that I've ever played it, but funny enough, the shadow in the game is also named Stan.
And what's even funnier is the Japanese title is literally "Me and the Devil King"
