Disney Animation looks back at the first 50! :D

Post by milojthatch »

In honor of their 50th animated film coming out today, Disney Animation has put together a video to look back at the first 50. PS: I think this should put to rest the debate of what is and isn't a DAC. :D

Well it doesn't matter what some people who work at Disney officially say, Dinasaur wasn't animated by Disney's Feature Animation Studios so it shouldn't be a DAC...

But other than that, what a great video! The CGI jarringly looked...glaringly not like Disney but it was still a wonderful look at all they have done and decided to call all of them Disney Animated Classics. Soem of it made feel sad at what they've lost, some made me feel bad at what they've done, but most of it made me feel happy and proud and some other feeling of all they've given to us over such a long, long time.

Happy 50th Animated Feature mark! Now, as for Happy 50th Animated Feature itself, I just don't know...will have to see it...but the title of it will always make it a little unhappy. It doesn't sound like the 50th Animated Feature. Heck, it doesn't even exactly look like it.

I will never accept Dinosaur as a DAC, but I wish Tangled much success! It seems to be getting fair reviews (no one's saying it's Disney's best...) I'll wait for the DVD, though...

It's called making sure that the A-picture (Tangled) gets the crown of 50th feature as opposed to the B-picture (Winnie the Pooh). ;)

I think Winnie the Pooh would have been fine as the 50th. It's very, very, very, Disney!

Curious that they chose a clip of Louis for Princess and the Frog rather than one of.. oh I don't know.. Tiana? That aside, this was really cute. :)

Exactly.

I agree that the 3D films were jarring though. The only one that looked good animation-wise was Bolt. That shot from Tangled was kind of...game-ish. Something about the boat. Probably just a bad shot.

Wow, what a great video! It's nice to see all the films acknowledged, even if just for a second or two, because I know a lot of us feel like some films are treated with as much respect as they should be.

I hope I'm around to see them make it to their 100th film, lol! That might seem impossible, but just in my lifetime so far (1985 - 2010), they've made it from 25 to 50, so who knows?

They don't want to be called 'princess movie makers' remember?, I'm actually surprised they show a romantic shot for tangled instead of a scene of Maximus hitting Flynn or something.

You wish Tangled much success, yet you're not willing to support it by seeing it on the big screen?

Great video, though I think they could've used more iconic shots. Some of the ones used felt a little random in regards to representing the film in question. I also still scoff at the inclusion of Dinosaur in the line-up, especially when all of its backgrounds are live-action. Still, the video gave me a nice feeling inside.

Random observation: the Hercules shot seems to be directly from the CAPS file. It's gorgeous and makes me want the Blu-ray now. I think Hunchback's shot is also from CAPS, but it's harder to tell because of all the on-screen noise. The Rescuers Down Under one definitely isn't, though.

I gotta agree. That doesn't exactly sound like the best thing to do. If you want them to be successful, I suggest you see it in theaters and NOT wait till it comes to DVD.

But the Pooh-movie won't be a Disney 'Classic', will it?

Although the new "Pooh" film is a sort of a sequel, it will be included as a "Classic" in the official canon since it will be created by the WDAS.

Doesn't matter? Doesn't MATTER?! You are seriously going to sit there and say what is and isn't a DAC when the folks that actually own and make these films have just spoken, again? You really going to say you know more about Disney then Disney? Wow, that takes guts. You can disagree all you want, but "Dinosaur" IS a Disney Animated Classic. Look, I don't like that "Chicken Little" is a DAC, but it still is. Sorry.

It's Disney's best, will that be enough for you? hehehe No seriously, I just saw it and it was really, really good!

You never know. Since "Lion King," they have really upped the anti on making these films. In the last, what, 16 years, they have made 19 films! It could happen! :D
