Jonas LA Has been Canceled by Disney

After two seasons, the Disney Channel has decided not to renew JONAS L.A., a spokesperson for the network tells TVGuide.com.

The comedy, which followed the Jonas Brothers attempting to balance school, friends and their band, drew an average of 3.7 million viewers during Season 2.

Viewership for the show pales in comparison to that of the network's other hits, including Hannah Montana, which drew 7.1 million viewers on Sunday, and Sonny with a Chance, a comedy starring Demi Lovato, which delivered 4 million in its most recent outing.

Meanwhile, the Sunday debut of new series Shake It Up, starring Bella Thorne as a young dancer, averaged 6.2 million viewers following Hannah.

"We've been fortunate to work with the enormously talented Jonas Brothers on several projects, including the Emmy-nominated series JONAS L.A.," the Disney Channel spokesperson said. "We look forward to working with them on new projects in the future."

One more show down... So only Sonny, Good Luck Charlie, Phineas and Ferb, Fish Hooks, and Shake it Up will be left? Darn it. When the first 3 end, Disney Channel will be done (and not so much Good Luck Charlie...).

These tweencoms are like gray hairs, you pluck one out and three will grow back in its place. Though I have to wonder -- with the cancellation of JONAS, the ending of Hannah Montana in a few weeks, and presumably Wizards of Waverly Place next year since Selena Gomez said that she would be leaving, not to mention Demi Lovato having some 'personal issues' which could affect Sonny With a Chance (which hasn't done all that great in the ratings anyway) -- it seems like Disney has hit a tweencom dry spell, unless of course the new batch of shows catches on. To be honest, I hope they start working on some more animated tv shows, instead of these live-action shows. I mean, Phineas & Ferb is great (Fish Hooks and Kick Buttowski, sadly, not so much), but some more variety would be much appreciated.

Then again, I'm not exactly in their target demographic anymore, but still...

To be honest, I hope they start working on some more animated tv shows, instead of these live-action shows. I mean, Phineas & Ferb is great (Fish Hooks and Kick Buttowski, sadly, not so much), but some more variety would be much appreciated.

I don't want it to become a Cartoon Network clone either. I think it's time Disney Channel was re-invented once again. I think the current era is coming to an end and it's time to go in a new direction. (sadly, I enjoyed this era more than the Lizzie McGuire era. The only redeeming qualities of it were Even Stevens and Vault Disney which was promptly removed in response to Lizzie McGuire's success).

I won't miss "Jonas LA", in not only for the lousy laugh track. Like all of the other shows (Sonny With A Chance, Good Luck Whoever, The Suite Life on Deck, Wizards of Waverly Place, etc.) that have those terrible laugh tracks, it is inevitable that Disney isn't listening to its audience. I would watch any of the above mentioned shows on a regular basis, despite the lousy acting and plot lines, any time as long as they got rid of the phony audience laugh track. There are truly some very funny scenes that don't need any help from the phony audience.

"Fish Hooks" is pretty lame, as far as animation goes, and is probably too adult to keep the "Phineas and Ferb" audience interested.

I wish that Disney would see fit to issue Season compilations on DVD of "Phineas and Ferb". I have over 20 Discs (DVD-R & RW) that I have recorded of their first three seasons. I think it is time for an official release.

I would love more than anything for The Disney Channel to once again be "America's Family Network". Though, ABC Family has been showing more Disney movies recently (with the few they bother to show) than The Disney Channel has in years.

The Disney Channel hung itself in 2002 when they eliminated Vault Disney, after that lineup had been pushed so far back into the night for about a year, and when "Zoog Disney" took over the entire network.

If Disney today has a problem appealing to boys, part of the reason is because for the past several years, most of their original programs on The Disney Channel has appealed only to tween girls. It took a miracle for a show like Phineas & Ferb to make it on the air, and bring some bit of variety back to this once-great channel.

I could agree with that. While I'm not a fan of it, they have always had something for the tweens (New Mickey Mouse Club, Kids Incorporated). So having some shows for that group is not bad. It's just bad when it is THE ONLY thing they have on.

Further, they need to bring Vault Disney back. I think showing the old stuff would bring a lot of people back to the station.

Add to that some good, quality animated shows, and Disney Channel is back!

Well, good! All these things are are a fad and they grow up and don't know what to do with themselves once everything is over.

BTW, Disney Channel is hitting it's 30th anniversary so you never know what it might do.

I agree with you Disney Channel needs to be re-invented again. My favorite era was Even Stevens - Hannah Montana. The only shows that I like from this era are Wazards of Waverly Place, Suite Life on Deck, Phineas & Ferb, and Good Luck Charlie.

I read a post on toonzone that I thought was hilarious enough to share regarding the show:

They should have went with the original spy angle. Not because it would have made the show last longer, but because when it failed they could have said "kids don't like spies" instead of having to admit "kids don't like the Jonas Brothers anymore."

TI think this show being cancelled was a good thing. Reason? Because the Jonas Brothers no longer have to sell out. That show was screaming "sell out!" Now maybe the Jonas Brothers can go back and live the daily lives and maybe write some new music.

I disagree with wanting Sonny to be the next to be axed. Demi has some issues she's getting help for. Let the show get a third season once she's got her issues taken care of.



But I do agree with bringing some older programming back. Cut down the # of airings of Hannah Montana and you could fit in a NEW NEW Mickey Mouse Club. Bring back the Nightly movies, every night (we used to get a movie every night BEFORE the lame tween shows started).

I'm only a fan of Sonny & Charlie and occasionally Phineas and Ferb. I watch SLOD and WOWP when I am bored.

If Disney cancels Sonny With a Chance now, I think that would be in poor taste. Doing that, especially when the show has been holding it's own in the ratings, unlike the Jonas show, would prove to us that Disney doesn't have faith in Demi. Granted, if by January Demi's healing process doesn't seem to be improving much at all or she doesn't have interest in continuing the show, then it's up to her and Disney to make the final decision on it's future.

Even if you're not a fan of SWAC or Miss Lovato, I think it shouldn't be hard to agree that the show shouldn't be given the ax at this time. Not only that, but how many other programs would Disney have left in production if they dropped it?

I think part of the reason why JONAS LA didn't do so well is because it kinda confused and isolated fans of the first season. It was like we were supposed to forget that the first season never existed. No soundtrack was released for the first season so are we supposed to just forget those songs? We got a soundtrack for JONAS LA though.

No I don't think Sonny with a Chance. Sure many would love to get rid of all the tween shows if they could but if we want Disney Channel to cater to all demographics then like it or not tween shows would need to be included. Like it or not.

Now maybe the Jonas Brothers can go back and live the daily lives and maybe write some new music.

They are way overdo for a new album. Pretty much all of their music output this year has been for soundtracks. (With the exception of Nick Jonas and the administration's 'Who I Am'.)

No offence, but have you actually seen JONAS and JONAS LA? Those shows didn't have a laugh track at all. And besides, the latter show was more a drama than a comedy.
