A representative for Demi Lovato says the Disney teen star has checked herself into a treatment center to deal with "emotional and physical issues."
A statement sent out Monday night on behalf of the 18-year-old star of Disney's "Camp Rock" and "Sonny With A Chance" said Lovato ended her tour over the weekend to enter the center. Neither the location for the center nor Lovato's problems were disclosed.
The statement said she was taking "personal responsibility for her actions" and seeking help. She also asked for privacy.
Lovato has toured with the Jonas Brothers and was recently linked to Joe Jonas before the pair broke up.
A person familiar with the situation previously told The Associated Press that Lovato entered treatment for problems including an eating disorder and cutting herself. The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly due to the sensitivity of the matter, later clarified the statement, saying Lovato had dealt with those issues in the past.
Lovato, who is star of Disney's "Camp Rock" movies and the sitcom "Sonny With a Chance," was on an international tour as a special guest of the Jonas Brothers, but left the tour over the weekend to enter an undisclosed facility, according to the statement.
"Demi has decided to take personal responsibility for her actions and seek help," the statement said. "She is doing just that. Demi and her family ask that the media respect her privacy during this difficult time."
In a 2009 interview with The Associated Press, Lovato, who has also released several records, said she had to leave middle school at one point because she was bullied so badly.
"It was more verbal harassment than physical abuse, but that's actually more scarring than anything," she said. "And I had to leave because I just couldn't deal with it. And I've home-schooled ever since."
Lovato was linked earlier this year to Joe Jonas, her "Camp Rock" co-star, but the two later broke up and said they remained friends.
Her rep said Lovato regretted not finishing the tour but "is looking forward to getting back to work in the near future."

But, wow, she cut herself? Who would have thought? I would have thought she'd just be like the other Disney teens who were sick of the safe, closed Disney image they had to keep up, by becoming slutty. lol.
I didn't know she was bullied as a kid. She sings great. She's a star. She could try to become bigger and better if she wanted. I just don't get it. I hope she recovers and gets better.

Yeaaaaah um, you probably shouldn't just go around assuming that some person led to another person's mental state. Not only is it often wildly incorrect, it's pretty douchey.
"Ta ta ta taaaa! Look at me... I'm a snowman! I'm gonna go stand on someone's lawn if I don't get something to do around here pretty soon!"
Oh, sorry. I was just reminded that he broke up with her recently. Sorry if I presumed too much. I'll go edit my post (dang, and right after I read pap's post... stupid me )
Aside from the fact that these Disney Channel stars are horrible for Disney's reputation and integrity, these kids are suffering. Hardly any of them grow up to live normal lives and I wish Disney, for the sake of the kids in question and their own reputation, would stop exploiting them.
I hope she recovers and heals for herself, not for Disney or any of the celebrities she probably thinks are her friends.

I agree, it's like MGM's star factory all over again, except for the most part their stars were adults. These are children.
I remember seeing a picture of Demi in a red carpet where in a close-up you could see her scratched up wrist. This is really sad, but at least she (or the people around her) had the sense to get help; things are obviously already out of hand if she's depressed enough to harm herself.
I actually read a headline on the Canadian MSN that read-
"Lovato addicted to Coke"
Any other famous stars with the last name "Lovato?" Whatever. At least it doesn't read-
"Lovato addicted to drugs."
That's just another one of the many scandalous rumors you'll probably hear about down the line. There's a possibility that it's true and Demi does do blow, but until a more credible source comes out and confirms this, I call bs.
There are also reports stating that she's pregnant, and I'll say the same to that.
that rumor that she snorted cocaine is true. Some guy posted up the video as proof of it.
All in all, this stuff is hardly a surprise. Child/teens actors, for majority, always end up with some fuck up scandal and reputation. Linsey Lohan, Oslen sisters, Macaulay Culkin, etc. Not to mention that once these kids grow out of their childhood, they don't get the same fame they once had when they were younger. A poor truth in the hollywood world.
Huh, really? Can you PM me the video? I still find this hard to believe, but even if it's true, I don't really care. Lots of people her age have done stupid shit like that, and I'm not exactly an exception.

Forgive me if this sounds insensitive, but I find it quite ironic that nearly everyone was betting on Miley Cyrus being the wild one, the one that would be sent to rehab, and that Demi Lovato was the nice girl. Now, Miley is doing "OK" while Demi was the one sent to rehab.
But if you guys allow me to ponder for a bit...
Have you guys noticed that most of the time its the girls that get the worse out of stardom? Sure, there are guys that do get depressed and abuse drugs and alcohol (which I bet they keep secret), but it is usually the young starlets that go under the scrutiny of pop-culture. I mean, has anyone made a news story about Drake Bell being sent to rehab, or that one of the iCarly guys got into trouble? It's usually the girls getting into trouble. I wonder why that is?
Of course I may be wrong as I don't spend my time reading celebrity gossip.
I hope that Demi will be alright. I admire her for going to get help. As a former cutter, I know what it's like to feel so down that you turn to that, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone, so I hope that she'll come out of this stronger and better equipped to handle stress and bad feelings.
I think pap was just making an example, because we hardly hear "bad" gossip about young male stars, but almost always about young female stars. Like, the media will heap a whole lot of "Is she anorexic?" attention on a female star if she's seen ordering a salad at a restaurant. But if teen star Joe Bob Teenman is ordered to do community service for punching a nun, it'll barely makes a dent in the news.

Exactly. I mean sure there are news about male stars and singers (like Ricky Martin coming out and the whole Robert Downey Jr. debacle from ten years ago). But when it comes to young stars you barely hear anything about the male stars, but the minute the female stars do anything its all over the news.
I mean, I am sure someone like Drake Bell, Josh Peck, Zac Effron or anything have gotten drunk at parties, insulted someone or hell, even taken their pants off in public.
