A new DVD set to replace the Treasures (open brainstorming)

Post by Big Disney Fan »

This was actually based on this thread here: http://www.dvdizzy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26744.

I like the idea of how to replace the Treasures, as far as cartoon shorts go anyway, that I can't justify letting my idea die. Just as the Treasures were featured on DVD only, this set would be on Blu-Ray only.

This series would encompass all of the different shorts by Disney. But since some shorts serieses are shorter than others, I decided to merge two shorts lines together in one volume of DVD. Here's the complete list of DVDs in the series (five in all):

Volume 1: MICKEY MOUSE
Volume 2: DONALD DUCK
Volume 3: GOOFY AND PLUTO
Volume 4: SILLY SYMPHONIES AND RARE RARITIES (think the Disney Rarities DVD)
Volume 5: THE ROARING '20s (showing off the Laugh-O-Grams, Alice Comedies and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit)

I'm thinking of calling the set "The Walt Disney Cartoon Legacy Collection". So why don't we discuss what we should do about this set idea of mine? Why don't we discuss!

What's so bad about that? I mean, maybe the classics was a bit extreme, but what's so bad about doing it here?

Well, I believe it'll be years, if ever, before we see anything like this on blu. The first question, of course, is do they even have 4k scans of all the shorts? Basically, are they currently HD ready? There is no way they're going to just dump a mountain of SD material on blu to simply utilize the greater capacity. If the answer to the resolution question is no, then we may never see these collections on blu. They've already put out all these shorts in a market 10 times the size of blu and had trouble moving sets. I wouldn't be holding my breath if they have to invest any more money just to simply release the same material into a significantly smaller market. We're much more likely to see this stuff available via streaming/download some time in the future.
