"Limited Edition DVD Sleeve" Releases

Post by Heartless »

I've recently seen on eBay these new (to me) "Limited Edition DVD Sleeves" of a few movies, like The Rescuers and Hocus Pocus. Can someone tell me what's going on with these and where to buy them?

Can you provide a link to what you're talking about. I just tried looking for them myself, but didn't find anything matching what you're describing...

OMG!!! Those look awesome!!!!! I wish I knew where they were coming from though. Maybe it's a Disney Movie Club promotion.

Those look great, but, can't they just give us new releases of those two movies?

What, you mean the holographic sleeve isn't the most important part of a new edition?

Sharp!

...so does the slipcover make the DVD itself better, or what?

But, it's so SHINY!!! It makes it OVER 9000 times better! I'd rather have a slipcover, than a new release. Just sayin'.

I pity the trees that were destined to be made into glittery sparkly shiny cardboard holders. May you rest in pieces. : )

The first special slipcover that Disney Movie Club did was for James and the Giant Peach a few years ago. I never got that one, and it's a good thing since it would have been thrown away when I got the Blu-Ray. However, given the way the DVD market is going and the possibility that these three films won't see another physical release (or a high definition release), I decided to get them to make my collection look a little better. I got all of these for very little money with DMC's VIP deals, and in most cases I was able to sell the extra copy sealed for about what it cost me to begin with. Here are a few pictures of the three I have.

I think these are a complete waste. Why can't Disney just release new editions instead of just releasing the same editions of the dvds over and over again, just with some spiffy slipcover.

Because people aren't buying DVDs like they used to. Businesses like Netflix, Redbox and digital download sites have made it so easy and cheap to watch movies that people aren't adding these kinds of films to their collection anymore. This is simply something that Disney Movie Club does to drive sales of some of their titles. Obviously it works since they keep making them.

I would really not prefer to pay full price on DMC just to get some shiny slipcover when I could just buy the movie cheaper elsewhere. I know you can get it cheaper on DMC if you buy a movie at full price, but I can never find a movie I want to pay full price for.

I think DVD and Blu-ray sleeves are pretty neat. I've grown to care for them since I like my collection to be displayed nicely and I like my movies being housed in a good looking package. I wouldn't re buy a movie just to have in a new sleeve but when it's a new release I normally pick up one that has the sleeve and make sure it's not damaged or torn. It must be a collector thing.

The slipcovers are attractive and all, but the "LIMITED EDITION DVD SLEEVE" banners make me rage.

I have a nasty feeling that the art used for these slipcovers was originally meant for new editions of these films that we will probably never get

I really, really want an anamorphic transfer of Hocus Pocus. Such a great movie, sells consistently well every Halloween, and one crappy crappy DVD release.

I would imagine that we will eventually get a new release. Despite these being on shelves for so many years, they could take them off at any moment and release a new edition a few months later and they'll make a good amount of money.

In a way, these new covers could be a good sign for a new release. Perhaps Disney is trying to get rid of the stock them have of them, so they can produce a new release by next year.

The slipcover for The Rescuers looks amazing!

It makes me regret never getting this movie for the slipcase.

I think they should make more of these for other films.
