Should we lock ten of the HoH Games and unlock them one at a time whenever one game is complete?

Yes, that way each game gets its deserved attention!

One "Hurt or Heal" Game at a time!

Post by Escapay »

Seriously. Eleven games running simultaneously is ridiculous. No wonder no one bothers with it anymore. If (depending on the votes here) a mod could close ten of the running games and let the oldest HoH game finish (MJ Songs), it would likely make the games feel more "important" again. Then when MJ Songs is finished, unlock Retired WDW Attractions, then move on to the next one, then the next...

Michael Jackson Songs - January 24
Retired WDW Attractions - February 22
Simpsons Characters - March 7
Madonna Songs - March 8
Supporting Disney Characters - March 13
Disney Rabbits - March 30
Disney Bears - April 9
Alanis Morissette Singles - April 11
Random Words That Show The Game Is Pointless - April 22
Disneyland Park Attractions - April 28
Retired Disneyland Attractions - May 6

It should be a new rule for HoH games: don't create one until the current one is finished. So the next one should NOT be created until Retired Disneyland Attractions is complete. Of course, it all depends on the votes of this poll, if it even matters to anyone. I just hate seeing how the game I brought to UD has been cheapened so much by being overexposed and overplayed.

I do agree we need to stop constantly creating new games at will, but I disagree with completely shutting down all but one of them and not creating any new ones until all of them are complete. That's just a little bit extreme. What if we just had everyone stop adding more games until at least one or two are complete?

Maybe the board is too overpopulated. People want their own game going because they don't vote on anyone else's? That's not really my case, I only started the Madonna game because I thought it was a nice companion to Michael Jackson. Lame other people never came along and voted.

I think a good medium is in need here. Maybe having 3 games going at once, that way, if someone isn't interested in one of them, they can participate in one of the other 2.

Didn't there used to be a limit? I say no more than 5 at a time.

But there's no point in locking "retired WDW" now as it's almost done.

I think that maybe having one per category open at once would make the most sense to me. Have on theme park one open, one general music one, maybe one movie one, or something like that.

Just one or two? That's just as bad as the eleven games already running. Having eleven games going on, then having only one finish, and then having another game started immediately won't lessen the number of games. It'll just keep the number the same, but change the topics.

Let all/most the games finish before any new ones get started.
Laz wrote:People want their own game going because they don't vote on anyone else's?
If people just created their own HoH simply because they're not satisfied with the ones in play, then I'd have started fifteen of them a long time ago for topics I know no one would be interested in voting for. And that was the whole point of HoH, to pick popular topics that *everyone* would be interested in. Unfortunately, that extended to "I wanna start a game!" "Me too!" "Me too!" and HoH-game starting went rather rampant and as a result, the quality of the game suffered because there were too many topics. The result was some perfectly good topics, or perfectly lousy ones, or even ones with waaaaay too many things to vote for (seriously, the list for the MJ songs is so daunting I don't even bother checking its progress, much less play it). And because there's so many of them, they all either get summarily ignored, or summarily played simply because of the chance to play HoH ten times in a day. The quality of the game suffers when too many people want to start their own game.

This is a good idea, and one that I think should be done. Just let the 3 games closest to finishing remain open for now, then the next 3, and so on. When there's only one or two games left in play, one new game can be added. I simply don't want to see Polls & Games be flooded with HoH games that they end up not "meaning" anything anymore. Not that they meant anything to begin with, but the joy of the game is gone if you've got too many games to play and too many topics to think about.
Wire Hanger wrote:Didn't there used to be a limit?
Never officially. Before, people knew when there were too many games running, and so they'd not start any until enough of them were finished. Some games were even abandoned simply because it was an unpopular one (Julian's Household Appliances, my Controversial Disney Topics), only to be dredged up again simply to have another HoH game to play.
Ames wrote:I think that maybe having one per category open at once would make the most sense to me. Have on theme park one open, one general music one, maybe one movie one, or something like that.
But then we run the risk of then having too many categories. Someone could say, "Hey, there's no category yet for Disney Characters with (Insert Specific Letter) in their name! I can start that one!"

Just a general "only one open or only three open" seems better, IMO.

Here is a schedule of how many HoH Games have been in play since 2008, when it was first introduced:

2008: 13 Games Introduced, 9 Completed (all from this year)
January 21 - Disney Animated Classics
January 24 - Many Faces of Mickey
February 8 - DTV Sequels
February 15 - Disney Villains
March 4 - Popular Movie Musicals
March 21 - The Magic Kingdom Park
April 5 - Disney Animated Television
April 21 - Stupid Household Appliances I've Made Up
June 22 - Superheroes
July 9 - Epcot Attractions
July 17 - Controversial Disney Topics
October 23 - Disney's Hollywood Studios Attractions
December 3 - Disney Broadway Theatrical Productions

2009: 5 Games Introduced, 3 Completed (2 from previous year, 3 from this year)
January 20 - The First 11 HoH Winners
June 12 - Disney's Magic Kingdoms
August 15 - The Many Faces of Donald
November 29 - Winter Holiday Specials
November 29 - Winter Holiday Movies

2010: 17 Games Introduced, 10 Completed (6 from previous year, 4 from this year)
January 12 - Disney Princesses
January 24 - Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 Segments
January 24 - Michael Jackson Songs - in progress
February 1 - Playhouse Disney
February 22 - Retired WDW Attractions - in progress
February 28 - Winnie the Pooh & Friends
March 7 - Simpsons Characters - in progress
March 8 - Madonna Songs - in progress
March 11 - Harry Potter Spells - in progress
March 13 - Supporting Disney Characters - in progress
March 30 - Glee Songs, 1st Edition - in progress
March 30 - Disney Rabbits - in progress
April 9 - Disney Bears - in progress
April 11 - Alanis Morissette Singles - in progress
April 22 - Random Words That Show The Game Is Pointless - in progress
April 28 - Disneyland Park Attractions - in progress
May 6 - Retired Disneyland Resort Attractions - in progress

2010 has already reached 17 new games in the first four months, whereas 2008 only had 14 new games, and 2009 (thankfully) only had 5 new games. Seriously, there are too many being created at once!

I was really looking forward to putting up another HoH, this time with the next eleven winners of the past. That was my plan the whole time, after seeing the one Escapay put up. I was going to do that one after the Retired WDW Attractions one or the Michael Jackson one got finished, whichever it was came first.

I think there needs to also be a general limit on how many choices there are per game that way we don't end up with yet another daunting MJ sized one. I do agree a lot of these need to be locked for a small time, and any new ones added should get locked until the number of them go down. I've also noticed in at least two games it was just the same two people voting each day.

It's really no fun when there's only a few people doing any of them at a time. It can show that no one really cares. There really needs to be a few more people doing it at a time.

I defintely feel that HoH is getting out of hand. I used to love that game, but now I avoid it like the plague. There are just so many going on that I stop caring about the individual games themselves. It just stopped mattering, since it became a pain to post HoH stuff in, like, 10 different games everyday. It just didn't feel worth the effort.

Great news: a Hurt or Heal game has been completed. I was really hoping to be able to do another "Final Battle" concerning the past 11 winners of previous games, but I've decided to wait until at least two or three more games get completed, too.

That list needs to be updated somewhat. No, there haven't been any new games. Not yet anyway. This is just to update some of the statuses of the current games:

I think, like someone else said, finding some kind of middle ground might work? 'Keeping a few open at once instead of just one.
