Tonight's the Big Night!
I do my first performance of the Beast tonight at 6:30 and my last (well, hopefully not my last, I'd love to do a Broadway revival!) tomorrow at the same time.
I'm incredibly tired, anxious, and terrified at the same time (God, please let me finish the transformation in time!). I'm so anxious, I'm listening to The Sound of Music soundtrack to calm me down...
Ahh, I can't wait!
Don't wish me luck!
P.S. I'll be back tonight with a complete account of the show!

I'm no actor (though I did play the role of the big bad wolf for my kids once), but as someone who has to stand up in front of people and speak what I recommend is to forget there's an audience and pretend that you ARE the character living in the real Beauty and the Beast world.
Don't try to achieve perfection. The harder you try, the worse its going to get. Just make sure the effects are convincing enough.
Anyways...
BREAK A LEG! And I wish you lots of sh*t! (No kidding, Puertorican actors say that to each other before showtime).
Funny how you are listening to the Sound of Music OST when I just reviewed it for my site!

Thanks pap and Margos!
To pap64- I was listening to the soundtrack and reading your review at the same time, and I thought that was pretty cool! Later today, I was trying to calm mine and my friends nerves and we sang a melody of "The Sound of Music", "Do Re Mi", "16 Going on 17", "Edelweiss", and "The Lonely Goatherd". The perfect melodies to take your nerves down.
Anyway, everything at the play was practically perfect! The dancing worked, the transformation worked (!), the singing, the growling- everything!
My best friend Drew got a load of laughs as Cogsworth, he was really brilliant. As the Beast, I knew the best compliment I could get was applause after a dramatic scene (I have a few funny lines, and they cut out my song, so there's no point in the story where applause like that is necessary...)! I got it! Right after Belle left! It was awesome!
I got to tell you, the funniest thing about the whole play- our scenery screwed up! And it wasn't anybody in the company's fault in the least bit. It happened right after Belle had taken Maurice's place in the castle, and I was leading Belle to her room. Suddenly, I hear this buzzing sort of sound, and I look up. A sheet (or curtain, something, in the middle of the stage) was coming down. At this point, I'm behind the curtain, Belle's in front of it, and I rush over to her side (mind you, it completely covered our scenery). I say my line "And you will join me for dinner!", the audience, myself, and Belle cracking up.
After that, they shut the curtains, and tried to fix it. They couldn't, so we moved the scenery to the front and played the whole thing closer to the front. We had just enough room, thankfully, and it didn't hinder us at all. It truly was a magical experience, and I loved every bit of it!
Tomorrow's the last night, and I'm already feeling withdrawls from my character! I'll have to watch the movie that night!
Anyway, thanks for reading (and thanks for the bad luck! It worked!).

Thanks guys!
Tonight went incredibly smoothly. The curtain was up, my mic was working (I didn't mention that yesterday, but it wasn't too much of a problem), the transformation was smooth... Sure, Drew missed his introduction (he was really upset, I feel so bad), and Gaston's sword wasn't in the right place so he took one of my Prince shoes and beat me with it... But everything else worked.
To be quite honest, I could do this for a whole more week or so, I'm so disappointed it's over! And I'll try to get some pics as soon as possible (they took quite a few so I'll try to post them here). They let me keep my Prince portrait (the one the Beast claws), and that will be a cherished keepsake.
Overall, I've had such great support from my family, friends, company, and you, my UD family- even before I was cast in the role! Thanks you guys!
PS- They are doing The Sound of Music next year! But I won't be there. But being the Beast was my dream role, and I did it! Ahh!!

Umbrellafish's dream role wish comes true to be the Beast!
It is so great that you got your dream role!, you got to be a Disney prince and hero! and it sounds like you were very, very good!
But I'm sorry, I don't think that costume's great at all! I don't know why schools can only seem to get those awful curly wigs, and those horns, aah...it is better than some I have seen though, I will give it that. In fact...even the original Broadway Beast had curls that could have been better...
But that means that you proved Beauty and the Beast's message is true, it's not how it looks...it's what's inside, and you let it out and it was just wonderful and what they needed!
I just dislike seeing wonderful classics performed with such less wonderful costumes! How was Belle's ball dress?

Re: Umbrellafish's dream role wish comes true to be the Beas
No, it's fine!
I thought my costume, especially my wig was lovely. I'll give you that it's a tad too curly, but it didn't bother me (nor the audience) at all. I loved the horns especially, except they could have stood a touch-up job (you see, we got the costumes from a college, so they'd all been through a dozen or so performances). The best thing about the wig was that it actually matched my natural haircolor!
My cape, though, was incredible. It perfectly matched the film. You can't really tell by the picture, but the outside of the cape is a nice, deep, dark purple, and the inside is pink. I loved it!
Cogsworth's clock was extraordinary, and I thought Lumiere costume looked like it was straight out of the B'way play, all thanks to the college that donated the costumes. On the other hand, Mrs. Potts was just okay, and Babette's was fine, but if it hadn't been a school production I would have changed some things...
Belle's blue dress was wonderful! Her's and Gaston's village costumes looked like replicas of the film, they were that good. The yellow dress was okay. It just looked like a prom dress to me. It's kind of sad, actually, because the dress should take the audience's breath away, but I don't think it did.
I'll see if I can get some pics of the other costumes...
Otherwise, however, I'm very proud of our costumes and my company! We had our cast party Friday, and we had a lot of fun!

Well, what really matters is what you think of the costumes. But sometimes I think one of the jobs I want is to be a costume designer...
I agree, Mrs. Potts needs help...lol

I was going to say, if you think these costumes are bad, let me tell you MY wardrobe malfunctions.
When me and three other classmates agreed to do the "Three Little Pigs" for our school, the three girls decided to go shopping for costumes...and they didn't tell me about it. So at the last minute, me and my mom were only able to get the wolf's snout. I had to use a black ski mask, create ears out of cardboard, wear a black sweater, black shoes and black pants and create a tail our of cardboard paper and paint it with black spray paint. At the end of the tail, there were some sparkles to create the illusion that my tail was on fire.
But regardless of how cheap my costume was (one of my students said that it was odd how my snout was placed) everyone loved the performance and couldn't stop raving about my performance as the wolf (I had the body for it). The performance was also 100% improv, and yet everything came out as if we rehearsed it for weeks.
But enough about me, this is Umbrellafish's time to shine!
