The Unofficial Society of People Who Hate Spoilers
Of course, the dumbasses who post them have officially become my pet peeve.

I remember when I was going to school one day, on the bus, and I asked my best friend... "who's the killer in Urban Legend?" It had just come out a week ago or so. She'd seen it, I hadn't. She didn't want to tell me. But after I begged enough times, she told me.
Generally speaking, I've never been bothered all that much by knowing something about a movie's plot or ending before I see it. In fact, usually I want to know everything before I see a movie. But things have really changed. Twist / surprise endings are better guarded these days. Which is really funny. You'd think with YouTube and all these tons of different media outlets - people would be almost trolling them with videos spoiling things for you and not telling you that they were going to ruin the surprise for you.
Case in point - Orphan. No clue how that thing ends. Back in the early 90's, everyone I knew knew the ending to Basic Instinct. Even though almost no one had seen the movie except for a bunch of housewives who rented the video. Funny thing about that movie actually, not many "guys" would admit to watching it. Of course, that doesn't surprise me when I think about it. I mean- there are very few action sequences, explosions, gunfights, crashes, etc. I think I'm getting sidetracked. But seriously, I can't believe I haven't found a spoiler for Orphan yet.

I've never hated spoilers. I think it comes from my preference to watch classic films or read classic books, which means the plots or twist endings might be common knowledge, as well as my natural tendency of using previous knowledge when making inferences (since, apparently, not that many people do).
Sometimes I wonder if I'd like a film better or be better effected if I didn't know spoilers. But, in the case of TPATF, I knew Ray died and I kept second-guessing myself, hoping he wasn't dead. That scene had enough emotion in it that it didn't matter whether or not I knew the story.

I've never been able to enjoy The Sixth Sense in relation to this topic.
I was SO looking forward to that movie back then, followed by one sentence ruining it completely --- yep... that one.
I hate it when a thriller of horror movie is spoiled, luckily movies like Hide and Seek, Gothika, Mirrors, Unbreakable, Déjà Vu, Flightplan, Coraline, The Strangers, etc. weren't spoiled for me - but sadly a lot have (like The Sixth Sense ^). I guess its also partially my fault for looking up too much stuff about the movie before I've actually seen it. But still, I share your sentiments. Very annoying.

Can you believe I've never seen that whole movie, but I didn't have the twist told to me by someone else? I did see the ending and was pretty surprised.Duckburger wrote:I've never been able to enjoy The Sixth Sense in relation to this topic.I was SO looking forward to that movie back then, followed by one sentence ruining it completely --- yep... that one.
Ever heard of Frailty? No one can ruin the "twist" of that movie for you because it has 4,000 twists, sometimes over 175 in under minute. I'm dead serious. If someone tries to describe it to you, they're going to sound like they're nuts.

my exapmle: Kingdom hearts: birth By Sleep. ppl who imported from Japan are posting spoilers almost left and right about the game without warning. It's not the fact that spoilers exist that irks me, it's that many ppl dont have the brain capacity not to spoil them.
At least for the Dark Knight, there were enough twists not to really care about spoilers.

Well, while spoilers annoy me, it would be a pretty poor movie if it didn't hold up after a spoiler. Movies that stand the test of time will have high re-watchability. Now I walked into the Sixth Sense and The Others with spoilers and they hold up pretty well (at least the Sixth Sense does). A good movie is a good movie.

I try to avoid spoilers, especially after I watched Up. The movie experience was so much better for me when I didn't know what was about to happen, and when those events came about, I was surprised or shocked. Now when it came to The Princess and the Frog I had a feeling that Ray would die but I didn't know how it would happen. When it did, I was still surprised, so that one little spoiler didn't ruin the experience. I'm going to stay off the information of Toy Story 3 so that way I can come into the theater and be surprised at what I see, similar to Up.
Say no to moldy, disgusting crackers!

A great many people feel The Others remains a truly great horror film. But God is it a snoozer! Watch out for those curtains!jpanimation wrote:Well, while spoilers annoy me, it would be a pretty poor movie if it didn't hold up after a spoiler. It's funny, I guessed the spoiler in The Sixth Sense, and I've never seen the movie... Just from trailers and inoccuous clips, it was kind of easy to figure out.
If the kid "sees dead people", either:
A. Bruce Willis is dead
B. The kid is dead and Bruce is the one with the "see dead people" talent"
C. They are both dead.

Oh yeah. The one where she goes nuts terrorizing her children and the house staff of her huge castle-like estate with curtains, a large key-ring, and a shotgun. Oh, and there are ghosts around that terrify everyone.DaveWadding wrote:is The Others the one with Nicole Kidman? Awful.
Did I mention- ghosts are not scary? There is only one thing less scary than Hollywood-movie ghosts: people running around pretending to be scared of Hollywood-movie ghosts.
