Greek: Chapter Four DVDs Review Omission???

Post by Keyser257 »

Ok, let's state a few things right off the bat. I've watched Greek from the inception of the show. I still never miss it, and it's one of only 3-4 'must-see' shows on all of television for me anymore.... The review of the Chapter Four DVD set was fairly complimentary overall....

Except....

One of the reasons I enjoy the show so much is its representation of Calvin and Grant (and other past flames) as normal everyday people. Yes, they're gay and in a relationship, but that's not focused on as their primary purpose. Even Calvin's friendship with Rusty (a great anchoring positive to the show, IMO) is about just dealing with everyday life. There are not really cartoony or overly cutesy flamboyant representations, that often plague other series' attempts at displaying a gay character or relationship. *Modern Family also does this quite well*

Yes, I am also gay personally, and discovered myself/came out at college, so this is a MAJOR attraction of the show to me. Within the entire review, most other characters including Dale, Ashley, Rebecca, and even the little-seen-this-season Frannie are mentioned. Zero mention anywhere through the entire review of Calvin or Grant's existance on the show. Even in the episode named specifically for them "Isn't it Bro-mantic?", nothing. Nada. No dice.

Shouldn't a show offering forth such a reasonable representation of LGBT folk in a positive light, especially to impressionable younger possibly-dealing-with-coming-out-issues, be willing to promote this overwhelmingly positive aspect of the show??? Instead of 'priest-abuse' jokes on late night shows, wouldn't a compassionate discussion about coming out between frat brothers be a better option you'd want to promote??? Or maybe it's all Disney being Disney, and again not tolerating/accepting anything that might be construed as 'offensive' to some....

I honestly don't know what it is. But I love the show dearly and will continue to watch. At this point however, I'm in much higher awareness of the 'sin of omission' and will take future reviews with a glossed-over grain of Mickey salt.... Just the way I'm feeling.... Thanks, Brian
