Anway whether Up does win the BEST Picture award or not...this is certainly a big step in the right direction for animation of any kind 2d or CGI in my opinion...has an animated film ever been nominated for Best Picture to compete with the big boys...I know Beauty and the Beast won Best Picture for Golden Globe but what else....
either way...this is a giant step for Pixar and im also glad to hear TPATF got nominated for Best Animated Picture

what are the other nominees?
never mind. It's a little degrading that District 9 also got in on it.
Degrading? District 9 is easily one of the 10 best films of 2009.
The Princess and the Frog also received two Best Original Song nominations for "Almost There" and "Down in New Orleans"
Up was also nominated for Best Original Score and Best Sound Mixing.
and Friends on the other side gets Snubbed??? I think if Dr. Facilier heard about this he is going to come up with a voo doo doll looking like gold oscar if you get my idea

Seriously?
Anyway. I don't know why I have the feeling that if they didn't made this up to 10 nominees instead of the typical 5 "Up" would have been snubbed, just like they snubbed "WALL-E" last years, but either way it goes, it's great they did chose the movie as a nominee for best picture. "Almost There" and "Down in New Orleans" make sense to have been nominated, which means it's most likely we'll get to see Anika Noni Rose performing both songs, unless they feel they have to get more rating by getting Beyoncé, which has already been proved as a bad idea.
Oh yeah. Woo hoo. Now UP will definitely sweep the Best Animated Feature Oscar.
As incredible as the announcement is, I'm not happy. If an animated film were to be nominated for Best Picture, I'd rather it had been another. Fox maybe ... haven't seen it, but they say it's good.
Oh yeah ... and WDAS can kiss any future Oscars goodbye. They're not winning awards with Winnie the Pooh and Snow Queen. Not when Pixar are being edgy and oh so mature. I challenge Mr Lasseter to greenlight a WDAS project that is just a bit experimental and unconventional.

But I really hope that The Princess and the Frog being nominated twice for Best Song doesnt cancell them BOTH out, a la Enchanted.
I was a little bummed that neither "Going Down the Bayou" or especially "Evangeline" didnt make the cut. I know they were both short songs but to me they were beautiful and absolutely amazing.

A bit sarcastic much? So many things wrong with that last statement but lucky for me I stopped caring about award ceremonies starting like...this year when the nomiees and winners became too incredibly predictable.
I think "The Princess and the Frog" is going to get shut out of winning best song purely because of the double nomination. Seriously, having more than one song nominated from the same movie is usually a sure-fire way to lose.

Well... don't get your hopes up too much yet.
"Ta ta ta taaaa! Look at me... I'm a snowman! I'm gonna go stand on someone's lawn if I don't get something to do around here pretty soon!"

Wasn't there buzz about the rules about best song changing so that only one song per movie could be nominated? I remember reading that when Enchanted had two songs up as well. I also remember hearing that this category was always one they had trouble filling since there's less movies with songs that are applicable.
Yay for Princess and the Frog and Secret of Kells nominations!
Nay for UP being up (pun not intended) for Best Picture. If the record that Beauty and the Beast held had to be broken, it should have been by another 2D movie (that would be even more beautiful and magical than Beauty and the Beast).
If the Best Picture entries were still five, UP would have never made the list. It was a slow year for good films (evident in District 9 being nominated) so the UP nomination was unavoidable/expected).
